I find myself humbled by the extraordinary blessings in my life. At the age of 75, I live in a modest little house, with nature all around and just enough income to have a bit extra to share. A bonus spent an hour in hot tub with grandaughter talking about life then nightcap on the deck by fire.

Sunrise over Saanich inlet this morning. The tablet camera doesn’t do it justice. The sun was blood red affected by the smoke from Spokane Washington fires. My heart goes out to the hundreds who have lost their homes.

And if I miss you well, you know what they say, just once in a very blue moon, just once in a very blue moon, just once in a very blue moon and I feel one coming on soon!" We have clear skies, so good to go for all those I'm missing today.

I am now getting personally pissed at trump and US government. Gas went up 21 cdn cents per litre where I always gas up between 3 pm & 9 pm today, which makes it now approximately $6.30 US per gallon. He doesn’t care how much his war hurts the rest 9f the world. Please impeach him.

Almost ready to plant this year's veggie garden. New raised bed and fresh soil going in. This spot behind house has a good mix of shelter and sun most days Next job, move the rainbarrel closer to make watering more convenient.

OMG, SNOW! I know it won't seem like much to most of you, but not often it snows here and rarely after Valentines. Along with a crack of thunder over head that shook the house. Again, I can't remember last time there was thunder & and lightning here. Oh, I have lived in this house 30+ years.

Oh I am having such a battle with myself. I miss having an animal around, and want to get another, first stage of battle is it fair to the animal since at my age it could out live me? Second, dog or cat? Have had both, sometimes at same time, loved them all. Third - repeat #1.

This has been a difficult Christmas. RSV has hit us. Some family members have or are recovering, but my sis is hospitalized & ventilated. She is improving thankfully. I thought I dodged it only today, got me. Everyone too old (>5)) or too young (<75) not eligible for vaccine.

One more sleep & I am off on a cross country flight to be with family for holidays. Not sure if it is flying or the 3 stages to get to airport I dread. 1. Ride from home to ferry 2. Sail across inlet 3. Taxi to airport. Maybe I should have planned to travel & stay near airport tonight?

"For, as long as but a hundred of us remain alive, never will we be brought under foreign rule. It is not for glory, nor riches, nor honours that we are fighting, but for freedom which no honest man gives up but with life itself." - Life lessons taught by a Scottish granny, immigrant mining widow.

Getting hit by an "atmospheric river"! What descriptive label. The rain has been bucketing down & the creek beside the house is roaring. Thank goodness the creek is in a small narrow ravine & can not overflow its banks.

I am having a lovely Sunday "hurkle durkle". (Loll in bed long after one should be up). I even got up, made tea and toast, and went back to bed with it. Can't remember last time I had breakfast in bed. But it is chilly out, grey drizzly, I have my heated throw on & am scrolling my news feeds.

Archie has passed. Right to the end he was my shadow, my hearing dog at night, my warning system for the yard and door. My travel & camping buddy. We would dance together when happy. I am now truly alone, and the house seems very empty.

My heart is breaking. My beautiful Archie is suddenly not well. They have found some abnormalities & awaiting more test results but in the meantime he either won't eat or eats little & he is slipping away from me. He has made the last 3 yrs since Hubby died bearable now?

Woke up to smell of smoke. 1st time in 40 yrs I have lived in this house I feel so vulnerable. I will be spending morning putting together emergency kit & grab & go bag. How do I save my husband's photographic legacy? Only the last years are digital.

Closest fire is 14 miles away under control according to web site & all seems quiet but I feel uneasy. Well will be good to make a plan just in case anyway. My husband used to complain I always worried about worst case & nothing ever happened. That is better than alternative.

You know if Trump & other expansionist dictators spent their time, energy & their country's money on improving the lives of the people, making the country beautiful & a great place to be others might actually want to join them.

Feeling pessimistic today and worrying about those fighting for democracy & sanity. From Rachel Maddow to so many others, please be save. This Canadian understands the increasing risks to speaking truth. Be cautious & stay safe, your bravery is not lost on those with eyes to see.

Anyone else notice the number of movies & program episodes lately with themes like: fall of a Republic, rise of a dictator, rampant political corruption, world take over by robots or AI etc. Almost like reality TV or someone sending a message. Or more likely I've caught conspiracy fever.

You are up to date.
