Zara has produced a pair of white low rise jeans (a crime in and of itself) with the sheet music for Journey to the Heavyside Lair printed on the right leg and Memory on the right. (I was typing out alt text for this pair of jeans and realised that was all that needed to be said.)

I've been asked countless times why I haven't tried turning my love of estate sale hunting into a resale side hustle. I only lay down money for stuff I genuinely want to look at (or wear) for the rest of my life. Reselling sounds like a nightmare. Great inside look below.

I sold $16K in Pokémon cards and it fucking sucked aftermath.site/pokemon-card-s...

Showing the sick toddler the best of Black musicians on Sesame Street (Patti singing the alphabet is a big hit) and learning in real time that Kirk Franklin has never been featured. Gonna need that remedied.

Bc I got that root canal I had to go grab painkillers and antibiotics. Forgot my ID, so they wouldn’t give me the painkillers, but sent me on my way with the other pills. Or so I thought. When I got home I realised they had given me the painkillers but checked out the antibiotics in the system.

So I turned around and went back, which I was gonna have to do anyway. Tried to explain what had happened in the most lowkey way possible because I knew someone was going to be in *so* much trouble. The pharmacist’s face went sheet white. I felt terrible 🫠

I’ve never seen that type of fuckup at a pharmacy before, nor seen the fear of God in someone at their job who wasn’t even responsible for the fuckup. Ironically, once she called over the two(!) supervisors needed to fix this I realised that it was one of the supervisors who’d done it.

I had an emergency root canal this morning and both toddler and husband have fevers so we’ve had Ms Rachel on literally all day. Question— does the mashed potatoes woman EVER get any more backstory? I feel like I know so much about the other regulars and nothing about this purple woman.

I find that character and song to be deeply annoying —truly the only thing about Ms Rachel that claws at my ears!— and I have to wonder if others did too and that’s why she never returned.

In other auction news I finally found original cells from Batman Beyond featuring THEE Maxine Gibson, but they are $1400+ *each* and I am fucking furious about it. Those belong in a Black woman’s house and I am that Black woman 😭

Like the Air India one above, some straddle my line of “I love this art while also wanting to get it out of circulation.” I’m going to be watching the price on this Southern Pacific attendant. The World’s Fair Haiti one is just interesting because why is he in chains???

My husband is at NYCC, so me and the kiddo are alone this weekend. I had such a fun night planned, which involved turning on music to dance out extra energy before bed. When I tell you this nigga started screaming “GOOD NIGHT!!” at me as soon as the first bar of Alien Superstar dropped…

I’m not complaining. It’s 6:45 and I won’t see him again until 7:30am. However I was SO proud with how I had planned out this post-nap afternoon 😂

Digger got me. I thought about Covid almost the entire time, but I know that’s only because I’ve been lucky enough to have not yet lived through a true climate disaster. “They have to be able to laugh” sums up the last six fucking years. This one really worked on me.

Limbering up to enter DIGGER DISCOURSE (TM) at approximately 8:30pm PT. SAVE SOME FOR ME PLEASE.

I liked the the 10 minute rotunda monologue. I liked the weird animatronic cat. I liked every characters insane choices. I liked the sound design that begged for a “bring your earplugs” warning. I liked the occasional dip into Wes Anderson (very much not my cup of tea). I liked it all.

I have to stop reading about this botched execution. I find it horrific. At the same time reading about it (and every other botched attempt from the past years) feels like the absolute *least* I can do. The crime was also horrific, yes, but our continued use of the death penalty is beyond the pale.

my twitter account that i haven't used since the Dark Times set in was hacked last week and someone posted the same crypto add literally hundreds of times in a row over the course of two days, rendering it basically useless should it ever become a safe space to return to. cool!

I am always thrilled when readers call out the map or the glossary, which I insisted on including not only to give the full scale of how big that damn campus is, but also to evoke the ~*fantasy*~ of the literary boarding school tradition!

This post is unavailable.

I *know* I'm going through it because what the fuck do you mean it's taken 3 weeks for the words "Kevin Aymoz Jack Sparrow Short Program" to cross my desk?

Watching Gene Kelly and Fred Astaire on screen scratches the same competency porn itch on my brain that formed through being a kid on a heavy 90s Star Trek diet.

Pretty sure there’s a direct through line from MGM musicals to my lifelong hatred of the DH too. Like sorry, even Clark Gable had to knock out a little soft shoe to Puttin’ on the Ritz sometimes. We stan a utility player.

Last ridiculous estate sale post: I found this Polaroid of Robin Williams shooting the 1989 Disney short Return to Neverland. I bought it for my husband who *adored* Robin. Posted it on Insta not thinking it was a huge deal, and came back to FIVE offers to buy it off us, haha.

(It’s staying with us. Robin Williams was one of the first things my husband and I talked about when we started dating — after Bravo, of course — and he’s very happy with his gift 😂)

I never do this (I should do this more often) but if you're stuck thinking on the NHJ piece from this weekend, maybe consider picking up my book, ADMISSIONS. I did K-9 at my local public schools, and 10-12 at the PWI boarding school my dad attended in the 1970s. bookshop.org/p/books/admi...

There is no right answer when you're a Black parent in America, especially when you're the parent of Black girls, who often have a harder time at independent schools (for reasons I get into in the book). I don't necessarily agree w/ NHJ's decision, but I *definitely* don't judge it.
