Helping my middle-schooler who is learning about the Declaration of Independence. We read it together. I was struck by the line, “A Prince whose character is thus marked by every act which may define a Tyrant, is unfit to be the ruler of a free people.”

I’m visiting Crystal River, FL for a kid’s sports thing. When I see this on a Crystal River tourism map, I see an agenda that divides. Do I spend my hard-earned money in an area that is not welcoming to all Floridians?

I want to get back to a time where I don’t have to have national park post cards on my fridge as a reminder that we can get back to decent, competent presidents.

My teen is taking a government class. I’m looking at the material and there is a good line in his lesson. Every day you exercise your rights, you are protecting yourself from tyranny. I think I need to remind myself of that every day. It’s easy feel worn down by this hot mess.

My teen is taking an online government class. I’m going over the material with him. He needs to be able to compare the Founding Fathers’intent to where we are today. I want my soon-to-voting age child to know how absolutely wrong this all is.

My son is studying Japanese internment camps. We watched @georgetakei.bsky.social speaking about his experience online. Got his book, My Lost. Freedom, from the library. What an awesome read! The blend of personal story and history is really engaging. Good book to share together, especially now.

My kid is studying WW2. Can’t tell you how many Nazi references I’ve pointed out to him on the news and social media. Then we discuss if that’s a fair comparison. Surprise - it is! I didn’t expect to talk to him about why people are yelling “brown shirts” at ICE and “see you at Nuremberg.”

My family went to DC Sunday before Thanksgiving. We came in at the Federal triangle stop. A national guardman standing watch alone over the otherwise empty plaza. My husband spoke with him. Young pleasant guy from Mississippi. Tell me why the guard had to give up their lives/jobs to become a target.

Took my kids to Urban Air in Jacksonville, Florida. Their TV was playing Fox News. Now, I doubt anyone at Urban Air is there seeking news coverage. It was a disappointing experience for many reasons but the TV on Fox is why we won’t be returning.

@captmarkkelly.bsky.social saw Mark Kelly being interviewed on CNN. He spoke about a family like ours who has adopted children who receive Medicaid. We are worried and afraid that our adoption benefits will be compromised and our children will suffer. Thank you for fighting for families like ours.
