Prisoners
Rewatched one of my favourites. Hugh Jackman gives what may be a career best performance here, and the rest of the incredible cast give it their all too. Villeneuve and Deakins do incredible work together to make this movie a joy to look at. I just wish it had a 4K Blu-ray available!
Book One: Survival - Chapters 7-9
Well, shit has officially hit the fan! The theme of unity/division is really coming to a head with Pavi and Nisha split up, the havens not cooperating, and Ellora itself being split into the Brigade and Faceless. Even the White Lotus seems fractured and untrusting.

I loved getting more looks into the past in Chapter 7 but I really need some definitive answers in next week’s episodes. I don’t want to wait a year to find out what happened in Korra’s time.
I’d like more development for the Faceless Queen as it feels late to introduce a “main antagonist” type.
X-Men: Apocalypse
This movie gets too much hate. I will admit that it’s not a good adaptation of Apocalypse, but if you can separate it from the comics/cartoon, it’s perfectly fine. I like the new young cast. The main issue here is just retreading familiar arcs for characters like Magneto and Jean.
Deadpool
Always a great time! I appreciate that while this movie is full of jokes and silliness, it isn’t afraid to have some earnest emotional scenes here and there. Reynolds as Deadpool is such a good fit, and while I know the comedy doesn’t work for everyone, it does for me! Very rewatchable.
X-Men: Days of Future Past - The Rogue Cut
The trailer for this got me interested in X-Men back in 2013! A fantastic extended cut of an already great movie. I love the continued use of tying the X-Men into real historical events. Some really cool sequences, including the iconic Quicksilver scene.
The Wolverine
I’ve always thought this movie is really cool. The action scenes, especially the bullet train, are really excellent, and making Logan vulnerable adds a lot to the stakes of the film. It’s also nice getting a more unique setting in Japan. I just wish the third act was a bit less messy.
Book One: Survival - Chapters 4-6
More or less feeling the same as last week! We learned a bit more about Pavi and Nisha, and got some interesting developments in the main plot. I’m very curious how the Faceless play into things. I thought Uki was going to be working with them but apparently not.

Karthik is currently really interesting me. He seems genuinely good but at the same time very secretive, and seeing him pull out a brutal airbending move that we’ve only ever seen used by Zaheer in The Legend of Korra really shocked me. He didn’t kill the guy but that definitely raised my eyebrows.
The Batman
The first time I watched this film it didn’t totally click. I could tell it was good but I didn’t love it as much as everybody else. Happy to say it really worked for me this time, and I really connected with Matt Reeves’ universe. It also looked gorgeous on 4K Blu-ray on my OLED TV!
X-Men: First Class
Every time I watch this I love it more and more. Not just one of my favourite superhero films, but one of my favourite movies, period. It’s stylish, fun, thematically rich, and looks gorgeous. Henry Jackman’s energetic, beautiful, and memorable musical score is the cherry on top.
Book One: Survival - Chapters 1-3
Really promising start! I love how many mysteries and unanswered questions have already been introduced, especially regarding Pavi & Nisha’s history. The show’s humour is occasionally a tad too childish, but like with ATLA I expect it to get more serious over time.
X-Men Origins: Wolverine
Another one that I think is *slightly* over-hated. They butcher Deadpool and make other bizarre choices like the CGI claws but I do think there’s some cool action, and the story with Logan/Kayla is good. It’s a shame the Logan/Stryker/Victor story is so messy and bad.
X-Men: The Last Stand
While I can acknowledge this is a messy film and doesn’t handle the Phoenix story particularly well, I do think it’s a bit over-hated. The mutant cure story is really interesting and could’ve carried its own movie. A longer runtime could’ve fleshed out each storyline properly.
X2: X-Men United
Such a huge improvement! This movie took all the right lessons from the first film. The cast are even more comfortable in their roles, the story and dialogue are much stronger, and the action is much more exciting and memorable! Brian Cox unsurprisingly plays a great villain, too.
X-Men
Obviously a very important film in the history of superhero movies, but I’d be lying if I said it had aged well. It’s still good as it has a simple yet strong plot and a great cast, but the action is very stiff, the editing is very strange at times, and the dialogue can be terrible/corny.
I’m dying to know what really happened to Korra with the cataclysm and what happened since! Obviously she’s not the evil destroyer the world thinks, but clearly there’s a lot we don’t know. Also, how have 200 years passed? Did Korra live to 200+? Was she frozen like Aang? Or were Pavi/Nisha frozen?
I also saw a theory that there was an entire cycle of Earth, Fire, Air, and Water Avatars between Korra and now. So many options are open and I can’t wait to find out which is true!
Huge shoutout to Jeremy Zuckerman’s awesome music! It’s familiar but so unique compared to his previous Avatar work.

Rosemary’s Baby
One of my favourite scary movies! The fear and paranoia in Mia Farrow’s performance is so real and relatable. I also love all the details you notice on a rewatch that set up the revelations later on. I really have to applaud the makeup team for how ghastly and thin Rosemary looked!
Primetime
As somebody who never watched To Catch a Predator, this was a really interesting look at the minds behind it. As with any biopic I do question how much is truth vs fiction, but it’s undeniably a captivating film with great cinematography and lighting, and really special performances.
10 Cloverfield Lane
Haven’t rewatched this since it was in theatres! I loved it then and I think it holds up great. The suspense and mystery is very engaging, and I like the twist near the end. Goodman is fantastic and Winstead turns in an engaging performance. Great music by Bear McCreary too!
Lanterns - Season 1
Really great, grounded take on Green Lantern. The whole cast turned in excellent performances, and although I’m sure some will dislike the relative lack of action and ring constructs, I didn’t miss either. The dialogue and drama were more than enough to carry this show.
Supergirl
Bland but not that bad either. Very over-hated in the general conversation. Milly Alcock is likeable as Kara but the supporting cast is not interesting enough. I actually think the movie could’ve used more time to breathe. Odd music choice during the final battle, too. Overall it’s meh.
Futurama - Season 11 (Production)
Another solid season. Really pleased with the quality of the Hulu era after the first batch, which was weak. I loved seeing the Disenchantment cast again, although I think that episode deserved a longer runtime. The finale was funny but not their strongest ending.
Dispatch
I was going to wait for a physical copy but the game was added to Luna so I played there for free! Awesome game with fantastic writing from Adhoc, no doubt due to their team’s history with narrative adventure games from working at Night School and Telltale. I fell in love with this cast!
I appreciate when choices in games make me really have to consider them, which requires an investment that Dispatch definitely earns. I didn’t get the ending I expected either, but I’m not mad at it. The actual dispatching gameplay was also really fun to me. I hope we get a sequel someday!
