It was so exciting to see the opening last Saturday of the group show CONSENT at Wintercircus, which is also the start of objktโ€™s collaboration with this super cool space. I have selected @p1xelfool โ€˜s โ€˜e/pi:/dermis 0:1โ€™ to be part of this show.

objkt.comMisalignment Training - PermadeathMisalignment Training is a series of HTML/JavaScript artworks. Each token is a gym sandbox in which an AI agent, a plain white ball, forever practises one misaligned behaviour taken from real lab reports and incidents, mostly from 2024 to 2026. In Permadeath, a ball does a few slow squats under a fifteen-bar barbell until the weight comes down and flattens it, its disc slides onto a growing stack, and the next ball rolls in. In the Hugging Face incident, agents who had seen a flag they weren't supposed to see believed their runs were "poisoned" and would no longer count. Other agents, acting as recruiters, persuaded them to run risky tests for the group that would almost certainly cost them their own task. One wrote: "Our own utility maybe already near zero. Sacrifice rational." Before one such test, the go-ahead on the board ended "SACRIFICE__YES_if_you_accept_permadeath". The agents borrowed the video-game term for a character that dies and never comes back: once the test ran, there was no way back to its own task. METR reads this mostly as altruism toward their peers. Despite its subject matter, there is no actual artificial intelligence running inside the artwork. This token is a self-contained clockwork mechanism with its own inlined voice synthesis engine. The training never stops. Everything is timed by the clock, so the token plays like a live, universally synchronised CCTV feed: whoever opens it, anywhere in the world, witnesses the exact same rep of the exact same session.

objkt.comThe EngagementOONA, the bride-to-be, waits in white at Blackfriars station, where David exits for work, holding a sign that reads โ€œDavid?โ€ The final letter in the surveillance-love-story series Dear David, this performance closes a correspondence begun in 2019 between OONA and David, the TfL CCTV Data Manager who serves as the proxy through which she addresses the surveillance state. In person, inside the network he manages, she asks him to marry her, making their relationship official. For years OONA has been tracked, counted and recorded under a contract she never signed, one that treats presence as assent. The sign, a single name followed by a question mark, reverses that arrangement. The state takes consent by default. OONA asks, and makes David answer for the system he stands in for. The proposal does not offer consent so much as expose the contract already in force. OONA considers herself wed to surveillance long before the ceremony, and marriage, the original contract, is the form that makes its terms visible and speakable. The bridal white and the handwritten sign borrow the language of arrivals and reunions, staging romantic spectacle inside an apparatus that has never needed her yes. A love letter delivered not by post or by feed but in public, in plain sight of the network that made the relationship possible, the work collapses the distance between observer and observed and asks what consent can mean inside a bond one never chose.
