James Anderson v Lancashire and why English cricket needs to stop playing the veneration game www.kingcricket.co.uk/james-anders...

"The bowler was not offered the opportunity to stay at Old Trafford on reduced terms," according to the BBC today. Baffling.

I can only assume that Lancashire had the, "Er, I don't suppose you'd be up for playing unpaid?" conversation with James Anderson before arriving at this decision.

A little odd that there doesn't seem to be any route into a coaching position for him though. Maybe he's been offered bigger coaching fish. Maybe he's just not that interested.

Boland is given the new ball and immediately strikes the kind of blow that suggests Jansen will need two new ones. #SAvAUS 🏏

Should have called this one Beasts of Burden.

Even more than the "4 minute read" warning at the top of the page might suggest, I'd say. (Not a warning? What would you call it?)

I choose to believe the 'Dragons v Badgers' contest they're advertising between deliveries is a literal fight between those animals. It's South Africa. There are all manner of beasts there. Some must fight. Some must do so on television. #SAvAUS 🏏

Spent a while on this one. Doesn't happen with every player. I have no control over it.

"… the one wicket that had fallen was David Warner to Stuart Broad in the first over, so it wasn't even a real wicket." This is good stuff. (It's also Wood stuff. Good Wood stuff.)

Mark Wood’s international career was defined by his total commitment to probably the most important idea in cricket; a mad idea that even its firmest disciples eventually turn away from because the risk-reward ratio of pursuing it is so unfavourable.

It’s a very simple idea. It’s the idea that there is a speed at which a cricket ball can be bowled above which the batter simply cannot hit it.

"For fairly obvious reasons, King Cricket can't do anything about the obscene and unjustifiable levels of AI funding we're seeing at the minute." Not with that attitude you won't. Kyle Reese must be rolling in his upcoming cradle.

There seems to be a theme in the comments of this piece; that the site has an inbuilt defence against the machines scouring the web for useful information...
