Saw something on social media about female-coded language being used to insult people, and it triggered a memory of some guy I knew in high school telling me I ran like a girl. Me and the girls I was sitting with were like “um, yeah?” I knew he was trying to insult me but wow. How stupid.

I am keen to inform you, autocorrect, that not all white houses are White Houses. Or White House’s, for that matter.

Still mourning my beloved #Graphite (but pencils!) but this might be the one time that I am truly okay with the one that beat mine winning it all. Congrats, quartz! Usually I’m super petty about losing, ngl. #MinCup26

Congratulations, Quartz! After a decade of #MinCup, this key rock-forming mineral of optical tricks is the #MinCup26 Champion! Due to intense manipulation attempts in the final hours, the exact winning margin is still being audited. Please join us tomorrow for celebration!

Once upon a time I was living in a large Midwestern city #TSRN and I was part of a group of friends, some of whom I'd known for some time and some who were more recent because my core group had just moved to that city, and among the more recent were two guys.

They were attractive enough* but they weren't super fit, they didn't have great hair, no one was asking them to model anything. (And neither of them could really dance for shit, frankly.) *I mean, I thought they looked like schlubs but this story is not really about me.

I think about those two guys occasionally. I've thought about them more often lately. I hope they grew up. I hope they realized that the problem wasn't women, it was their own expectations and sense of entitlement. Not holding my breath, though.

They weren't talking about women in general - they didn't mean that all women didn't like "normal guys like them", they meant these gorgeous, lush-haired, big-boobed, perfect-assed women they saw at the strip clubs didn't. As far as they were concerned, those were the only women that mattered.

Imagine being so foolish that you would complain about how you couldn't find a nice girl who likes you, to a nice girl who likes you. Just because that nice girl wasn't model-perfect. I should note that these two guys? Were totally ordinary physically themselves.

Because, you see, the women in this group were really nice people. They were kind and generous and funny and intelligent, and they were attractive, but they didn't look like the women you see in strip clubs.

And these two guys would sit there, talking to these real and wonderful women, who actually liked them, and bemoan how women didn't like "normal guys like them". They would complain about how they couldn't find a nice girl.

Our connection to each other in the group was that organic thing, where you do a thing you like, then you meet someone through that who likes that thing too, and then they also like this other thing you like, and through that you meet other people they know that like the second thing.

So, it was a fairly loose connection, but as things usually go with mixed sex groups, crushes happened. Now these two guys, they liked to go to strip clubs. And whatever, no judgment to people who go to strip clubs, but it's relevant to the story.
