In case you didn’t know, the album cover for Hope Is the Thing with Feathers is actually an image of six-by-six-foot patchwork quilt made by textile artist Uzoma Samuel Anyanwu, based on a photograph by Ebru Yildiz. Two days before the album came out, I finally got to see this masterpiece in person.

There is no moral equivalence between bullies and the bullied, between tyranny and democracy, or between brutality and decency. No individual can be free in a society devoid of justice. There can be no liberty where brutality reigns.

Remind you of anyone? Ok, that wasn’t an appropriate thing to say about this innocent little snake just minding his own business by hanging out in a hydrangea in the rain, but so many “snakes” come to mind when seeing a slithering creature

Meta is kicking people off their sites for no apparent reason. I just got kicked off the thread thing for "violating community standards" - I hardly ever post and when I do it's about art, gardens, or dogs.

I despise people who design outdoor sconces and post lights. Did people think that the light bulbs would never have to be changed? Access to the bulbs are only by unscrewing tiny knobs, easily corroded and that disappear in the shrubbery if dropped. Why can't hinges be used or a simple latch door?

Word of the Day: MUMPSIMUS – someone who obstinately sticks to their old ideas in spite of evidence that they are wrong.

“Untethered to the facts” is putting it nicely…

NEW: Federal judge blocks Trump's National Guard mobilization in Oregon. "The President’s determination" that the Guard was needed "was simply untethered to the facts," Judge Karin Immergut, a Trump appointee, found. DOJ is appealing. Overnight, at Law Dork:

Please support your rural small businesses, especially in these trying times. We needed one of the spray arms replaced in our commercial dishwasher and the "travel" fee just for the nearest service provider to get to us is over $500, that doesn't include parts and labor. #smallbusinesslife

The service guy was nice and asked if there was anything else needing fixing on the washer to try to get me something for that hefty price I was paying for essentially him telling me I needed a new part and they had to order it. I see another "travel fee" is in my future.

HUGELY Important.

While Mike Lee and Steve Daines' Senate Natural Resources Committee amendment to the budget reconciliation package mandates the sale of up to 3.3 million acres of public land, what most people miss is that it also authorizes the sale of 258 million acres. That's 40 percent of all public land:

The opossum is done! Even while studying #art in undergrad, oil painting seemed intimidating Now, 20+ years later I have the courage and curiosity to do it. I’ve learned so much about trusting the process and myself. I hope you’re doing ok. If you’re feeling lost, take an art class. #newpainter

Another art world casualty - received notice that MacPherson's Art Supply, a wholesale company relied on by small art supply stores, including our own, has suddenly shutdown. Anyone know of another US based company. MacPherson's was the largest. #artists #artsupplies #indieartsupplyshops

This paragraph is the crux of everything relating to niche hobby industries and why every single hobby that relates to physical objects (specialized electronics, scale models, model railroads, gunpla, stitching, sewing) is either going to be heavily impacted or, more often than not, vanish entirely:

There are 33m companies in the USA. Only 21k employe 500 or more. And they only make up 23% of workers. Trump and Elon are ignoring the more than 32m entrepreneurs that can't afford to build a new factory or pay tariffs or absorb cancelled contracts.

I'm enjoying all the new fiber arts follows! But just a suggestion, a description of your interests in your bio or a couple of introductory posts would be helpful. When all I see is name and nothing else I'm hesitant to follow back, so I usually don't until I learn a little more about you.
