Among the trash picked up this morning doing neighborhood cleanup. Right where it belongs.

“Let no man tell you where you can throw your trash. Their sense of community has no bearing to the self-determined.”

"you're parked on the bike path" "I know… I need to take this medicine within sight of water." 1. there's a parking lot right there 2. wait, what?

10% rye, 30% whole wheat, 80% hydration sourdough with toasted walnuts and cherries. (Inspired by the Costco bakery)

Almost ended the #WeekWithoutDriving splattered by a driver cruising through a right turn on red. At least it was in front of a hospital.

The tree I reported down across a trail yesterday was amazingly already cleared this morning, only DPW cones left as a calling card. further along that same trail a service truck (not DPW) was parked on the path, and then a construction gate was blocking the path. But at least the tree is gone.

Caught up on my backlog of film, it’s mostly pictures! Pen wasn’t advancing properly for one roll so those ended up heavily overlapping, which could make something interesting. Or not.

Harvest 50 gravel race, last of the season, is tomorrow. TBH I’m not really feeling it but if nothing else it will be a nice ride, forecast is for a beautiful late summer day.

The Kroger in Speedway has a popcorn shop, and it’s quite good! I’m enjoying the “Indy Mix”—butter, caramel, and Oreo. It’s nice to find something as staid and soulless as Kroger can still exhibit a bit of individuality.

One of the team cars in La Vuelta plays la cucaracha on its horn, it’s awesome. We’re placing bets in which one it is.

This is bad. Drivers: Phones down. Don't speed. Stop blowing those red lights. Get a rideshare or take the bus home from the bar. Be careful out there everyone.

🚨 We have tracked an alarming number of bicyclists struck recently. Of the nine total incidents reported since 8/31, eight involved bicyclists. One was fatal. One resulted in serious injury. Four more resulted in injury with medical transport. @centralincycling.org #SafeStreetsIndy #Indianapolis

Processes and procedures being subverted at the whim of a single person is not a good thing. "The process [to change a name] takes a minimum of six months. Each proposal is thoroughly reviewed and researched before the BGN Domestic Names Committee renders a decision." www.usgs.gov/us-board-on-...

This game is fun, but be warned that it's easy to get into a pit of despair of "nah surely this word isn't rare enough."

New fun word game! OUTLIER just hit 100 days. One grid a day, everyone on Earth. Come find what everyone else missed. playoutlier.com?ref=day100

This interview with Tim Curry on CBS Sunday Morning last year stuck with me. Hopefully he found his comfort, he certainly earned it.

I think the lesson here is everyone, or at least one person on a group ride, needs an always-on camera… I have a Coros computer, does the Garmin Varia work fine on its own? Other recommendations?

It gives me relief to see that his mustache does that same annoying thing as mine where one side likes to curl forward sometimes and there’s no amount of waxing and training that will fix it.

Feeling better today so got to take my new bike build out for its first spin! It's a parts-bin drop-bar commuter built around a State 4130 Single Speed frameset with self-built 700c wheels that have a stealth two-speed kick-shift hub with coaster brake, which I originally built for my city cruiser.

50% whole wheat, 85% hydration, overnight autolyse. Sweet and tangy.

It’s a beautiful day, last weekend of the state fair, BGI and Robert’s tent sales (my two main money-pits-slash-hobbies), and I just finished my latest bike build this week. And I’m stuck at home with a cold/flu. Maybe I’ll bake some sourdough.

I had a manager who used to use ”chef factor” instead of “bus factor”—that is, how close a project is to being in trouble when someone decides to quit and go become a chef.

What will it take to make bidets ubiquitous in the US? Attachments are cheap and easy to install and yet we still seem to be the only one in our close circle with one. Huge quality of life improvement—cleaner butt with less TP.

Bike sprint through the Bottleworks. I seem to struggle to hold this camera level but I like the effect here. Kodak H35N, SHD400 dev FPP-110 1+31 5.5 min.

This is really glorious. Indianapolis welcomes all, even assholes of many sorts.

Ian Scuffling@iscuffling.bsky.social

I would like to think that this is going to say “welcome, assholes” and there’s a big proctologists convention coming to town.

Adventures with SHD50 continue. Rebel G at ISO 12 seems to work well. Dev FPP-110 1+31 for 5.5 min.

"I am myself a citizen of no mean city"— I just learned from @edfujawa.bsky.social's excellent "Yesterday's Indianapolis" podcast that it's mean as in "average," though today most will associate mean with "cruel." TBH I like the latter better, it's as much a personal statement as a collective one.
