FLASHBACK to 2018...Pirates of the Caribbean was on the production line at Jersey Jack Pinball. #pinball #arcade #jerseyjackpinball #piratesofthecaribbean #captainjacksparrow

I dug into my picture archives to check out when the game was being made. A lot of people wish it still was today (other than current owners lol). Sadly, I don't think that it will ever be run again.

The secret history of Data East Star Wars pinball Designer John Borg was quoted in an April 2007 Game Room Magazine article saying that his Data East Star Wars began as a dinosaur game called “Cadillacs and Dinosaurs,” which was later going to become Jurassic Park #pinball #arcade #starwars #1990s

1992 Data East Star Wars pinball machine. A whopping 10,400 units produced. Designed by John Borg with art by Markus Rothkranz, music / sound by Brian Schmidt and code by Neil Falconer and Lonnie Ropp.

On a somewhat related note, “Cadillacs and Dinosaurs” was a fantastic 1993 side-scrolling beat ‘Em Up that sadly never made it into the recent “Capcom Beat ‘Em Up” game bundle on Steam and consoles. We need an official port of that game. My guess is that the licensing with Cadillac is holding it up

As details came out about the upcoming Jurassic Park movie, Joe Kaminkow decided he wanted that theme himself and he asked Borg to turn his dinosaur game into something else.

Data East also held a Star Wars license, so Borg took that. He reworked much of the playfield, turned the dinosaur into the Death Star, and added the R2-D2 mechanism in the upper left. Star Wars is the machine Borg named as his favorite of his own designs.

The centerpiece was a dinosaur toy that bent over, picked up the ball in its mouth, turned and dropped it into a hole while multiple balls were put into play.

Marco Bucci’s story is absolutely fascinating. He went from an untrained teenager who was rejected from art school to a self-taught elite industry illustrator for Disney, Marvel, and Blizzard. And now has created a homebrew pinball masterpiece. #thesimpsons #simpsons #mrburns #pinball #arcade

After working on his homebrew project for three years, Marco brought his 1-of-1 homemade pinball machine "Who Shot Mr. Burns" to last week's Chicago Pinball Expo. Having played it at the show, I can tell you that it's fantastic. It's loaded with cool shots and mechs and his art is incredible.

The game took home several awards, including: - Best playfield design - Best immersive world - Best licensed theme - Deepest ruleset - Best voices - Funniest game - And took 2nd overall for Best In Show!

The coverage spread to 60 Minutes, NBC, the New York Times, and more. Ivy has said the company received threats and hired security for its factory for several months. Exidy's official line was that players were hitting "gremlins," not humans.

The controversy increased sales and put Exidy on the map. The roughly dozen-person company gained distributors and visibility. Death Race is widely considered the first video game to spark a national debate over

The company needed a new product fast to make payroll. Howell Ivy, an Air Force veteran and former Ramtek engineer, found a shortcut. The hardwired board couldn't be reprogrammed, but its image memory and sound circuits could be changed.

He swapped the cars for stick figures, wrecks for crosses, and crash sounds for screams. With a new name and cabinet, Death Race shipped in 1976. Sales were slow until an Associated Press story that summer described a game where players run over people.

Death Race was born out of a business problem. Exidy had licensed its 1975 game Destruction Derby to Chicago Coin, which released it as Demolition Derby. Chicago Coin was in financial trouble and wasn't paying royalties, and Exidy was contractually barred from selling the game itself.
