Mike Brown says Knicks' awareness was improved: "Against Orlando, their hot players — I mentioned this to you guys — Bane and da Silva, were 9-18 against us. The guys that we labeled hot tonight, two of the guys were obviously Duncan Robinson and [Daniss] Jenkins, and they were a combined 3-16."

Mike Brown: "Paul Reed is a good player. He had 16 points, I don't know how many rebounds in the first half. I challenged KAT, and KAT had a tremendous second half. 27 & 20, and he's more than capable of doing that night-in and night-out."

Mike Brown: "We had some lulls where we weren't as physical as we should've been, during the course of the game, but we had some really good moments. We had more good moments in this game than we did in the totality of the first three games, and that's why we got the win."

FINAL: Knicks 111, Pistons 97. NY earns their first win of the season in front of their home crowd, led by Karl-Anthony Towns' 27 points and 20 rebounds. Jalen Brunson started shooting 1-9, finished 5-18 on the night with 23 points, 7 assists.

A resounding ovation from The Garden crowd as the Knicks' starters all head to the bench. Kolek/Akins/Dadiet/Diawara/Wiseman in for NY. Wrap this one up

Karl-Anthony Towns has 27 points, 19 rebounds. Also five fouls and just three assists to seven turnovers. Hasn't been perfect but a loud performance from the center tonight, who had opportunity with Jalen Duren out for the Pistons

After much ado about a goaltending violation that was a technical, and then not, Ausar Thompson fouled out anyway. Josh Hart is now 2-2 on the night, both from downtown, in 26 minutes. Pistons call timeout, down 109-95, with 1:43 left

Knicks' full starting five is back in the game — looked like KAT's night was over when he picked up his 5th foul, but he was being saved for this exact set of circumstances...

99-84, Knicks. Mike Brown calls timeout after the Pistons cut it to 15. 5:24 left, Brown trying to make sure his group doesn't blow this. They led by as many as 27 early in the 4Q.

Karl-Anthony Towns gets called for an offensive foul, his fifth of the night, and Rick Brunson immediately advises Mike Brown to get Andre Drummond in the game. 7:40 left, New York leads Detroit 95-74

Knicks are challenging an out-of-bounds call that went the Pistons' way. 8:09 left, a 21-point lead... but never enough practice for Ed Flynn, former Pelicans assistant who replaced Jordan Brink as master of challenge ceremonies

MSG jumbotron operators kept working and zooming different angles...until they found one that showed the ball catching Duncan Robinson's pinkie on its way out of bounds. Crowd erupted. Successful challenge by the Knicks

Karl-Anthony Towns just had his orange #32 armband knocked off his arm on a drive to the basket. Was upset about the lack of a foul. Ripped the band off, threw it into the crowd... and wound up in prime position to catch a behind-the-back dime from Tyler Kolek and slam it. 95-72

Karl-Anthony Towns has 23 points, 13 rebounds, and 2 assists as the Knicks lead 90-65. 10:45 left and I am relatively confident I know who's going to win

Hilarious celebration from Josh Hart after taking — and making — his first shot of the game as the 3Q buzzer expired. Jumped and cheered like a little kid in front of Mikal Bridges, other Knick teammates. Hart took 5, 7, and 9 shots from deep in the team's first three gms

Pistons won the first quarter 38-25. Knicks won the second 26-12. So far, NY has a 25-11 advantage in the third. It has come in large chunk runs, but a real back-and-forth here at MSG

Karl-Anthony Towns has 19 points and 11 rebounds after a 3-pointer from the top of the key. Knicks lead 74-56 with 5:06 left in the 3Q Brunson has 17 points, 4 assists. Bridges with 12 points

Mikal Bridges is up to 12 points on four made 3-pointers. He's taken six! Knicks 62, Pistons 50. 9:21 3Q. 14-0 run in 3:11 for the reigning champions

Jalen Brunson was 1-10 from the field. After a stat correction and two makes, he's up to 15 points on 3-11 FG. Knicks 57, Pistons 50. Less than 90 seconds into the second half, J.B. Bickerstaff wants to address his group

HALF: Knicks 51, Pistons 50. Paul Reed and Cade Cunningham lead with 16, 15 points each. Jalen Brunson, shooting 1-10 FG, leads NY with 11 pts. He's 0-5 from downtown, but 9-10 on free throws. Mikal Bridges has 9 pts, has made 3-5 shots from 3PT range

Mikal Bridges is up to 9 points, behind only Landry Shamet's 10 for the Knicks. Paul Reed's 16 and Cade Cunningham's 12 lead the game. NY leads 46-45 with 2:35 left until HT. They just called their second timeout of the night after committing a defensive 3-second violation

Josh Hart was called for his third foul with 5:15 left in the 2nd Quarter. Looked like he was going to stay in, now headed to the locker room with trainers. Was replaced by OG Anunoby with 5:06 left

Jose Alvarado has been as active as anyone in Knicks' huddles today — just had some advice for Tyler Kolek as he returned to the bench after being subbed out. Think he was telling him to go up with a shot on plays like a previous one

END 1Q: Pistons 38, Knicks 25 Paul Reed makes a 3 to end an explosive 1Q for Detroit. Woof! Knicks shot 8-23 FG. They have 7 asts, 3 tovs. Detroit has 11 asts, 2 tovs — certainly a less versatile scoring team, but a more effective approach thus far.

Daniss Jenkins sinks one from the right corner — and OG Anunoby responds from the left, down the other way. Pistons lead 33-25 with 54.8s left in the 1Q Tyler Kolek is replacing Jalen Brunson for the final minute of the first. KAT is still out there

Knicks don't put up any resistance as Cade Cunningham drives through their defense for a wide-open dunk. Mike Brown was already halfway to calling timeout Pistons lead 15-11. Two quick fouls forced OG Anunoby out just 4:18 into the game

Giants were physical and hungry against an elite defense and simply took it to them on the ground. Rone, Skatt, Motor. All three RBs were important. These guys all played their asses off

The Pelicans are on a 23-4 run over the Nuggets Everyone is hooping. Shoutout to Herb Jones, though, who is tied for a game-high +18 despite being entirely scoreless

NBA Cup play starts Oct 30th. It’s OK for the Knicks to start slow. I remember June. But they can write off an In-Season repeat if they don’t pick up their hunger, attention to detail. They were The Hunters last year. They might be again. But, right now, they’re just The Tired

Knicks have played some solid basketball but have ultimately left too much on the table to overcome. Same story as Opening Night. Nobody came to play more than Miles McBride, which is simultaneously admirable and a problem Celtics 89, Knicks 79 with 10 minutes left

Jalen Brunson is in the Arancia Kobe 3 Lows, Josh Hart in the Grinches Such a cool shoe — and very cool that Kobe never actually wore it. As close to a Brunson signature as we’ve gotten, ever

It's gotten better over the course of this game but Cavs/76ers has looked absolutely awful on my television all throughout Hasn't ruined my day or anything, but I think worth noting in case this can be changed at some point lol

I'm trying not to overreact to the Cavaliers' literal first game of the season. But when our freshest memory of a team is a 22-point playoff collapse, I'm finding it hard to keep both of my eyebrows in place

Cannot believe the 76ers just took the lead from the Cavaliers, who led by 29 with 1:12 left before HT They just cut to Kenny Atkinson on the bench and he looked like a ghost

Even after winning Finals MVP while ending the Knicks' title drought, Jalen Brunson has become the NBA world's reverse Justin Herbert. It doesn't matter what he's accomplished. To most, he still just doesn't look the part: dailyknicks.com/jalen-brunso...
