I genuinely didn’t know hatred of this crack was shared by other people

You can always report potholes, problems, and yes – cracks – with the Find It, Fix It app. We caught up with @mayor.seattle.gov and SDOT Acting Director Angela Brady on 2nd Ave in downtown Seattle.

Apples. We live in the golden age of Apples. No human has ever eaten better apples than what we’re eating everyday

Social media loves talking about how everything is getting worse. But what’s something that you’ve seen get _better_ in your lifetime?

I ride past Pinehurst station a few times a week. So far the most number of people I’ve seen at the platform — cumulatively on both sides — is four. There were zero just now, which is not uncommon so far

This is what real leverage looks like

Due to crew shortages, which have been credited to an apparent engineer sick-out, multiple Washington State Ferries routes are not operating this morning including Seattle-Bainbridge and Seattle-Vashon Island. Others are on severely reduced schedules. Check for updates: wsdot.com/ferries/sche...

His leaving on his own terms at the end of the year really only confirms that the only reason he wasn’t fired midseason was to preserve his reputation, which is not great for those of us who prefer a winning team

Dan Wilson will not return as the Seattle Mariners' manager next season, he and the team announced on Sunday.

Debora Juarez, 2020: "When I hear people say there's just a few bad apples on the police force I adamantly disagree with that. It's just not a healthy tree. We need to plant a new tree, we have to completely re-imagine, re-vision what community policing is." www.kuow.org/podcast/news...

kuow.orgBad apples? Seattle Police 'not a healthy tree' says city council memberChants of "defund S-P-D" have become a common message at protests in Seattle, and for the first time the idea is getting serious attention from the city council.
Erica C. Barnett@ericacbarnett.bsky.social

Debora Juarez, an unelected councilmember, claimed, completely falsely, "I watched this mayor sream defund, come here and here and scream defund the police, abolish the police. So [fully funding 1,250 officers] is political, and I think that's offensive, and it's not fair and ain't right."

Wilson was open to defunding the police in 2020 and now has changed her mind about that, that's true. But the reason that never landed as a political attack is that's like 80% of Seattle lol

I want to get behind this list but Phoenix being 20 spots higher than Montreal is disqualifying

Seattle comes in at No. 4 in Oxford Economics' Global Cities Index, behind New York, London, and Paris, in the ranking of the world's largest 1,000 cities based on five criteria: economics, human capital, quality of life, environment and governance.

To put a finer point on this, my simple math shows the city saved around $15M next year on pension payments, possibly more

David Kroman@kromandavid.bsky.social

A sneaky gift for Wilson: The city's required contribution to its pension was revised downward for 2027, from 15.06% to 13.48%. That is saving the city millions across her whole budget.

Mayor Katie Wilson: "I have made the difficult decision to transmit a new budget without new revenue."

An ongoing theme of Wilson's speech was "honesty," the implication (or obvious statement) being past administrations were not honest about the state of the city budget. Not wrong!

I haven’t seen much on how companies like OpenAI are planning for the liability shitstorm of their rogue AI agents committing felonies. If the agents do actually start causing genuine problems — taking a bank offline or something — wouldn’t Sam Altman or whoever be liable for prosecution?

Several of these hires

Erica C. Barnett@ericacbarnett.bsky.social

New hires for Mayor Katie Wilson: Tara Lee, formerly of ex-Gov. Inslee's office, is comms director; Ansel Herz, who most recently did comms for a union in California (and was a writer at the Stranger), is press secretary; and Amanda Pleasant-Brown, former govt affairs for Metro, is council liaison.

Scene from Denny this morning. Anecdotal but the traffic flow today looked similar to me as it did pre-bus lane

Ryan Packer@typewriteralley.bsky.social

Now that the bus lanes are helping bus riders and not substantially impacting drivers...it's not a news story at all.

Today Seattle's hearing examiner dismissed an appeal that had been filed by the MLB Stadium Authority over the pending Greater Duwamish Manufacturing and Industrial Center Subarea Plan. Why is this important? The reason for dismissal was the recent SEPA reform bill that took effect last week.

Very fun to officially get things going. We even had a bit of new reporting on the Pit across from City Hall: The city has found the developer to be in default of its agreement.
