Opened the 40k app on my phone this morning because I was curious about weapon options for crisis suits, on account of the remodel I did. Figured It might be neat to model up the weapon options. Do Crisis suits not get fun options anymore? It looks like prebuilt loadouts instead of equipment.

ALSO. Some of the Tau units on the app (like the stealth suits) had full stat sheets, expandable rule listings and wargear options. Whereas others just had "locked content" and only listed equipment names and cost. Are they just inconsistent within their own app? How do you mess that up.

Screw it, I'm going to give those suits some close combat weapons too.

I had some fun doing a redesign of the #40k #tau battlesuit. The "Hadal" pattern Battlesuit was envisaged as a remotely piloted drone platform, so the experienced operator teams don't need to be in direct harm. Two big pulse cannons because I like the idea of an upscaled version of the tau rifle.

First test pose is all prep'd up ready for a test print.

Righto, The test files for the battlesuit are all prep'ed up and sent off for a quote on some 3D printing. Let's see how it turns out! Really need some more space to get my own setup again 😅

I think one of the things I miss most about Modelmaking is just how *honest* it was. No bots, no algorithm, no content or communities to manage. We had big paper printouts to work from, plenty of workshop banter and I got to see a lot of new places when we delivered the final product.

I do love working digitally. Heck, it's a lot safer for sure. I no longer have to worry about fumes, dusts or injury. But I'd like to find some spaces to do some more practical work again sometime.

So far the best use that I've found for geometry nodes is to treat it as tooling. My designs tend to have a lot of individual components, and adding the same modifiers to each is time consuming and difficult to manage. So Instead I've been rebuilding the effect as a single geo node "modifier".

for these panel lines I'd have to make copies of geometry, apply booleans and prep up cutters every time I want to add a detail. If I change the original topology then I might have to go through the entire process again. Geo nodes let's me automate that process so it's all just plug and play.

I've been a little slow on the pickup for geo nodes. Struggled to get a real grip on it. But using it as a way to automate modifiers instead of a way to generate wild effects and simulations has helped me to get a better understanding of it.

Oh, okay. Some new GW minis have revealed, let's chat! The new Legion of the Damned are great. It's a good use of the killteam format to give this faction some attention. It feels like it highlights how redundant the primaris redesign was. Should have just rescaled the old astartes designs.

I think, in a vacuum, the new Gholem is kinda fun. The second option to have them depict a Godess instead is a nice touch. But yeh, the discourse about the design in the wider setting is pretty valid and there's definitely some more interesting things you could have done with the concept.

Gotta hand it to GW though, it's good to see that they're continuing their efforts to diversify the representation in their model ranges. I'm not the biggest fan of some of their policies, but at least that's doing better.

I'm excited for another episode of Astartes! I am not excited for it to be a Warhammer+ exclusive though. I'm really not a fan of how GW has handled fan content, and taking a thing that was fan made and viewable to everyone and locking it behind a paywall is lame and unethical.

The fancy big reveal is the Duardin. They're.. fine. I'm not as familiar with Fantasy/Sigmar though. The standing characters like Hjulda and Thrynn look fun, I'm less fussed about the foot troops though. The artillery is good, but the loader should probably be wearing shoes

Custodes have some fitting additions to their range of very nicely detailed kits. I'm not very wow'd by the Terminators though. They look like they aimed for a regal stance and just ended up with some stiff looking poses. Could have done with some more commanding gestures.

Primaris with Jump packs always look so awkwardly posed, which is a shame because there's been some amazing artwork for assault marines in the past. The extra vents/fins on the legs and backpack look kinda lame too.

Are there any depictions of 40k power armour that are (a) properly proportioned and (b) actually able to move around in it? I don't think I've seen a version that doesn't cheat it so far.

I've been playing around with this character model again, but have had a terrible time getting the chunky armour to move properly without clipping. Made for an interesting render test though, trying out some different tricks aimed at that old codex background image art style (needs some more work).

I finished Dimhaven today; Good Game. Good Puzzles. A little short, and it felt like the intro suggested that there would be more locations than there actually were.. The artstyle and music were good, though not without some small visual glitches.

The problem space remained pretty small at all times, so it was often clear where to find solutions. (or if there were more solutions to be found). I would have liked the map to have opened up to some back tracking and puzzles that spanned the whole playing space.
