People opened the door and quickly closed it to give us “privacy” until my friend didn’t take no for an answer and got me up and out of there. The would be rapist stuck around the party for awhile eyeing me with anger.

I genuinely didn’t realize what a perilous moment it was until later. It was the 80s when this situation was played for laughs. (I’m looking at you Sixteen Candles 🤬). I called my essay Lucky with a hint of sarcasm but I really do feel lucky because so many women are not.

I laughed it off at the time. “Wow, wasn’t that crazy. That guy sucked.” But I think back to that night. How I felt safe with this group of “friends.” How a bunch of them cleared out of the room I guess thinking that I, a very drunk high school girl, wanted to hook up with a stranger (college guy).

lol my flight got diverted because of a medical emergency and they landed us in reykjavik in the middle of the night and deplaned us and sent us through passport control and then the crew vanished and then british airways sent us links to book an overnight hotel room but for a hotel at heathrow
