"The Professor, The Pipette, and the Path Not Taken" finds readers working in cutting-edge research, developing spin-out companies, becoming a professor or leaving science altogether. The hundreds of paths through the book lead to a range of alternative endings. biologist.rsb.org.uk/adrian_listo...

"There's this concept that circulates that if you don't ace your exams or get into the top university, then basically your whole career is burnt bread," Liston explained. "That's not a healthy framework." That misconception became the spark for the book. www.the-scientist.com/a-stem-caree...

The second job is here: www.cam.ac.uk/jobs/researc... This one is a one year position, although fellowship applications can be supported. It is for a gut immunologist with a current PILAB licence. Experience working with gut preps and flow cytometry is key here. This project is also very cool!

You can drop me an email if you need more info, but I don't check my BlueSky DMs. It is okay to apply for both positions if both are suitable for you, they will be judged independently. Closing date Sept 10 with interviews soon after (so I can offer jobs before my teaching starts up in October!).

The first is here: www.cam.ac.uk/jobs/researc... It is initially a two year position, but hopefully that is a stepping stone to something longer. This job is for a molecular/cellular mouse immunologist. Flow cytometry is a must, retrovirus experience would be a plus. The project is very cool :)

Absolutely - AI will lie rather than not answer a question, a fatal flaw that means all scientists should not be using this for anything meaningful (never mind the stolen IP etc)

“Should you just drop out of the rat race and take up a career in landscaping?” Speaks to my soul. I have pondered this exact question many times…. 🥲🧫🧬🥼🧪

Can you actually get mega-rich through a career in science? Is biohacking in a DIY lab a sensible option? Why is there a cat playing chess? Should you just drop out of the rat race and take up a career in landscaping? These questions and more are answered!
