Congratulations to #LACoFD Fire Captain Dushone Roman, named the 2026 Firefighter of the Year by the Cerritos-Artesia Rotary Club! From starting as an LACoFD Explorer to serving internationally as a K-9 handler, Captain Roman defines dedication. Thank you for your service!

🐾With heavy hearts, #LACoFD mourns the passing of K-9 Deacon. Deacon made a lasting impact deploying with our USA-02 team to the 2023 Türkiye earthquake & recent hurricanes in Jamaica. Our deepest condolences go out to his handler, Capt. Mike Toepfer, the Search Dog Foundation, & all who knew him.

Q: Why do we say #KnowYourZone? A: #LACounty has been mapped into labeled zones. Should an incident occur, some zones may be selected for shelter-in-place notices, evacuation warnings, or evacuation orders, depending on conditions. Alert messages will be sent to those zones as appropriate.

🗺 Do you know your zone? Understanding your zone in Genasys Protect can help you receive timely notifications for evacuations or other emergency messages. 📺 Watch this quick 30-second video to see why it’s important & how to stay informed when it matters most.

As the State Department deployment to Panama wraps up, we are proud of USA-02 & USA-01. They conducted 383 critical structural safety assessments at schools, medical facilities, government & emergency-service buildings & churches. Our thoughts remain with Panama as they recover & rebuild.

On 10/18, the #LACoFD & Fire Museum held a Flag Ceremony at FS 127 for our friend Randy Mantooth who passed away on 7/9. Known for playing Johnny Gage on Emergency!, Randy brought Squad 51 into millions of homes & was an advocate for FF health & safety. He is greatly missed but his legacy lives on.

3/3 He & his son, retired LACoFD Fire Chief Daryl Osby, hold the distinct honor of being the only father-son duo to serve as Fire Chiefs of major metropolitan departments in the nation. Our deepest thoughts & prayers go out to the Osby family. His profound contributions will never be forgotten.
