👀 What’s next for #LandscapeFeatures? We’ve seen what they do: cleaner water, healthier soil, more wildlife. But how do we bring them back into working farms? 🚜 Costs & benefits, real examples, upkeep, and farmers at the centre. That’s where #LAFERIA goes next. 🔗 laferia-project.eu/news/benefit...

🪨 Close to the end of our #LandscapeFeatures series, we are introducing the stony features: terraces, stone walls, rock outcrops & sunken lanes. 🦎 They hold soil & water on slopes, shelter wildlife in wall crevices, and carry real heritage value. 🔗 Learn more: www.linkedin.com/feed/update/...

💧 Today: wet #LandscapeFeatures - #ditches, #SmallWetlands, #ponds & #RiparianVegetation. 🌊 The water-cleaners of the farm. Ditches carry frogs, birds & mammals, strip out nitrogen, phosphorus & pesticides, and trap sediment before it fouls the water. 👇Learn more: www.linkedin.com/feed/update/...

🌳 Next up: #woody #LandscapeFeatures - #hedgerows, #TreeRows, #LoneTrees & #SmallWoods. 🍃 Heavy hitters on #carbon, #soil & #wildlife. Hedgerows store carbon like woodland, hold back run-off, shelter crops & give #bees and #beetles a home. 💪🏽 One feature, many jobs! 🔎 Read more: lnkd.in/p/d7jeNEUM

🍀 First up: #grassy #LandscapeFeatures - flower strips, grassy margins & fallow patches. 🐝 More pollinators, more species 🌱 Soil loss & runoff cut by half or more 💧 Up to 80% of nitrogen runoff caught 🐛 Up to 70% more natural pest enemies 🕸️ Best when connected to nearby habitat! 🕵️ lnkd.in/p/eWw8jcRH

📣 New campaign! What are #LandscapeFeatures and why do they matter? 🌾 Learn how powerful together are the hedgerows, ditches, stone walls & flower strips woven through farmland: better soil, cleaner water, more wildlife. 👇 Stay tuned for more! 🕵️ laferia-project.eu/news/benefit...

🌊 Not our patch, but worth seeing. @unep.org on why seagrass meadows matter and how fast they are disappearing. 🌾 Overlooked habitats doing quiet work for biodiversity is a story we recognise on land too. 💚

Seagrass meadows are among the most widespread and valuable marine ecosystems on Earth. Yet every 30 minutes, a football field’s worth of seagrass disappears. Discover why these often overlooked meadows matter more than you imagine: https://ow.ly/xWku50ZRr95

🔎 Spotted at the @idiv-research.bsky.social congress: a workshop putting alternative scenarios for restoring #LandscapeFeatures (LFs) to the test. 🤝 Thanks @guypeer.bsky.social and everyone who joined. 🕵️ Stay tuned for more updates!

Guy Pe'er@guypeer.bsky.social

Great workshop during the @idiv-research.bsky.social congress last week, exploring alternative scenarios for restoring landscape features in intensive agricultural areas. More to come in @laferia-project.eu

🌳 Happy #WorldAgricultureDay! Hedgerows, ponds, and flower strips prove that farming and nature can thrive side by side. That is the vision #LAFERIA works for every day. 🤎 To the farmers shaping Europe's landscapes: thank you!

🌾 As the European Parliament weighs the future of the #CAP reform, @guypeer.bsky.social makes the case for keeping (and improving) what actually works for European farming. 💚 A question close to #LAFERIA's heart: how do we shape policy that supports resilient, nature-positive landscapes? Video👇🏽

Guy Pe'er@guypeer.bsky.social

The European Parliament will soon decide on its path for the CAP reform. Will they adopt a dangerous CAP proposal, or can they find a way to retain (or even expand and improve) what works? Watch our YouTube film and our plea for policymakers here: www.agroecology-transect.org/toolkit-reso...

🌱 A peer-reviewed study by Halmstad University offers perspectives on #circular #WaterManagement in #agriculture and explains why, while the ecological benefits of #LandscapeFeatures are well known, their adoption on farms remains limited. 🧑🏽‍💻 Learn more here: laferia-project.eu/news/halmsta...

Seeing a thriving display of the critically endangered Adder's-tongue Spearwort highlights how important specific environmental conditions are for preserving biodiversity. At #LAFERIA, evaluating these ecosystem services allows us to develop targeted strategies to protect vulnerable species. 🌻🌱

Jeremy Sanders@jeremyjem.bsky.social

Thrilling visit last Sunday to @gloswildlife.bsky.social 's Badgeworth reserve with @timnmosborne.bsky.social to see the critically endangered Adder's-tongue Spearwort, Ranunculus ophioglossifolius. An impressive display this year due to ideal conditions. #WildflowerHour @bsbibotany.bsky.social

Finding indicator species like Pepper Saxifrage shows the immense value of undisturbed, traditional meadows. #LAFERIA uses #LandscapeFeatures mapping to identify and protect these rare #Grassland habitats, evaluating their role in biodiversity to develop strategies for ecosystem restoration. 🌾💚

Steven Wright@stevenwright58.bsky.social

We were delighted to refind Pepper Saxifrage in one of the PLWS ridge and furrow meadows next to Kilsby Lane LWS yesterday. This time 6 plants. As a species that grows in unimproved grasslands it's declining in abundance and is a great indicator @bsbibotany.bsky.social

💧 Many crop models underestimate water needs, impacting irrigation policies. #LAFERIA addresses this by evaluating how #LandscapeFeatures benefit yields, water availability, and climate adaptation, while developing reintroduction strategies for resilient farming. 👩🏽‍💻 Read more in the original post.

🌱 💧 www.zalf.de/de/aktue... #Forschung #Klimawandel #Ertragsmodell #Modellierung

🌱🦋 This #BiodiversityDay, turning local action into global impact is more urgent than ever as we approach the 2030 #KMGBF deadline. #LAFERIA is committed to halting biodiversity loss by designing resilient, nature-inclusive #LandscapeFeatures that restore local ecosystems.

🌡️ Extreme heat threatens 1.23B livelihoods, with yield losses tripling during drought. #LAFERIA builds regional resilience by restoring #LandscapeFeatures (LF). While we work on identifying the costs for the climate, we also look at the benefits and focus on enforcing them. #ExtremeHeat

🔥 #ExtremeHeat threatens the livelihoods of 1.23B people. Agricultural yield losses can triple when heat combines with other hazards such as drought & are projected to get much worse as the world warms.    More in @fao.org-@wmo-global.bsky.social report 👉 https://doi.org/10.4060/cd9394en

🌳🌿 Diversity is the foundation of a resilient territory. Research confirms that mixed-species plantations significantly improve soil structure and water capacity, which resonates with the mission at #LAFERIA to build lasting natural infrastructure.

Journal of Ecology@journalofecology.bsky.social

🌲A global analysis of 6,550 observations shows that mixed-species plantations increase soil carbon and water holding capacity by about 10.5%. The greatest gains occur in conifer broadleaf mixtures in warm, wet climates through better soil structure 👉️ buff.ly/U3sA2l4

🌿 Mediterranean landscape features (LF) are more than just scenery; they act as functional buffers for the soil. These natural areas, which are central to the work at #LAFERIA, sustain the biological activity that is necessary for ecosystem survival in the context of climate change.

Journal of Ecology@journalofecology.bsky.social

🌿Plant canopies buffer soil functioning against climatic disequilibrium. In Mediterranean shrublands, plant patches sustain soil enzyme activity, proving vital for ecosystem resilience as plant communities become mismatched with climate 👉️ buff.ly/XBWrK99

🌡️🌡️ The alarming findings, published in the European State of the Climate 2025 report, state that Europe is warming more than twice as fast as the global average. One of LAFERIA's objectives is to evaluate the costs and benefits of landscape features in helping agriculture adapt to climate change.

🚨 Carbon farming is a powerful tool, but it only works if the rules are transparent. ⚠️ Experts are raising concerns that new EU regulations might lack the quality needed. Within the #LAFERIA, we believe that we need scientific evidence to make sustainable farming truly work for the environment.

#CarbonFarming could accelerate #ClimateAction in farming🙌 The #CRCF could help, but today we learned that many of the flaws identified by civil society were ignored. Without fixes, the risk of environmental harm and #greenwashing are simply too high ⚠️ Joint statement👉 eeb.org/en/library/j...
