This is horrifically sad. Also isn't she the one who said she wanted to make tumblr the new PDF or something?

ive talked on how i wont engage with writers who use ai, i wont eat at a restaurant with an ai menu, i wont have anything to do with it. but what this post illustrates is regardless of how OTHERS react, ultimately the worst part about using ai is that you are punishing YOURSELF and dont even know it

My mom had an age/disability related complaint. It's something she's been dealing for a few years but she hasn't really asked me for help with it until now. For 13 dollars, I've ordered something that should solve it. It'll get here Thursday.

Social media loves talking about how everything is getting worse. But what’s something that you’ve seen get _better_ in your lifetime?

Nothing makes me feel older than eating a lot of sweet stuff. I walked into the back of the library and announced I was going to be drinking a litre of water tonight and the kids looked at me like I was nuts XD

One of the librarians at my library celebrated 15 years as a librarian today so we had a little celebration for her and all she wanted was desserts, so. I had some of all the things XD

Happy Thanksgiving read my blog please and thank you

Things I’ve Read Recently (213): What a wild book If you're new around here, Things I've Read Recently is a series of posts I do that are basically mini-reviews of books that I either forgot to review, didn't have enough to say for a full review, or just didn't want to do a full post about for…

When our air conditioning was on the fritz, I bought a 3 pack of room thermometers online and like we got a new furnace so it works fine, but I still have those in the house and they are extremely useful. It's just really nice knowing what temp the room you're in is.

Thread worth reading if only b/c of how much of it, by volume, is people saying “the way GLP-1 meds are marketed/talked about is undoing decades of what was already achingly incremental progress on fighting cultural fatphobia and thin people are being more fucked up about fatness than ever”

Aubrey Gordon@yrfatfriend.bsky.social

Fellow fat people/people who wear plus sizes: how is the skinnypocalypse showing up in your own life, outside of media? What kinds of changes have you noticed in body politics in your own friends/family/coworkers/neighbors/self?

Childhood is seeing Goosebumps: The Haunted Mask and thinking the titular mask is the scariest thing you’ve ever seen. Adulthood is realizing that the bust of Carly Beth’s head is actually much creepier.

Literary agents are also concerned that publishers might paste manuscripts into LLMs to generate rejection letters and publicity descriptions. Some are now adding protections to prevent that. More on the AI turmoil at some of the Big 5 publishing houses here: www.wired.com/story/book-p...

wired.comBook Publishers Are Quietly Using More AI. Staff Are RevoltingWorkers at three major publishing houses tell WIRED that LLMs are being used for publicity, cover art, back cover copy, and emails, as some execs push junior staff to champion the tech.

Also one of my favourite phrases that I spread amongst the library kids today - a "forever book". As opposed to library books you have to give back, those are books you get to keep. Donations, discards, etc.

Happy Birthday to Mr. Stine, and also this reminds me of something I've been thinking about again lately. And it's that - I think the makeup from Goosebumps holds up even today and one of the reasons is the prosthetics/masks.

Happy 83rd, Mr. Stine

And I think the best ones are the ones where there are human eyes underneath. The Haunted Mask, the Horrorland monsters. There's no contacts or anything. There are human eyes. And I think that is deeply unnerving.

You know those reusable shopping bags that fold up into little pouches? I had one of those but also it was a backpack, and I was like, "We will never use this," so I brought it to the library thinking someone could use it carry books home Didn't even make it out of my bag before I had given it away

Perfect for the season!

October Minis: Don’t Fear the Reaper This is a totally different thing than I do in Things I've Recently because, uh, I say so. And because it's October. Editing Laina: Because it's only one book! That's why it's different. And that was on purpose. Don't Fear the Reaper by Stephen Graham Jones…

The Lorax. I watched a lot of scary stuff as a kid and was largely unaffected by it, tbh, but the Lorax deeply unnerved me.

To everyone who has asked me if The Dog Knight getting banned is actually a good thing, Keezy has summed up my feelings very succinctly here.

Okay, it's not exactly NICE, but old people who complain about other old people are kinda hilarious. My old bus driver who retired was an older lady and sometimes she'll fill in when the new ones are busy and she absolutely HATES some of the old women who ride the bus XD

Also we went outside to hunt for leaves, and one of the rules was, "Don't run into traffic because then they won't let me do crafts with you guys anymore." One of the kids went, "And you'll get arrested?" Yeah, sure.

I'm wearing a little skeleton hand claw clip today and a shirt that says "Whatever Spices Your Pumpkin" and I have been complimented on both. Very pleased.

that clothing was put together by an underpaid worker in a factory overseas under the cheapest circumstances possible. not assembled by a magic factory, but a human quietly exploited and erased an appropriate metaphor, then. AI was trained on the blood of real artists and profits from their absence

Funny she says that considering there are no machine-made clothes! Sewing is not an automated craft. Every single garment you've ever put on your body, if there's a seam in it, was made by human hands.

I just cooked perogies and potstickers one after the other and... like that's an almost identical cooking process, which is so funny to me. Every culture wraps stuff in dough and it's amazing.

JCO is the only one who gets a free pass to stay on twitter because it's better for us, emotionally, if she's not here, but also it's worse for them, emotionally, if she's over there

Something that has shaken me is that all clothes are hand made. Factory produced clothes employ techniques to sew at scale but human hands pushed every garment individually through a machine. The same way i do when i make clothes. The difference for writing is i'm not reading or writing to a formula

Literary fiction survives because romance supports the less lucrative genres. It’s that simple. Rachel Reid’s books support JCO books.

"Machine made" clothing is made by human beings. There are not autonomous clothing machines that make your clothes. All clothing is made by people.
