Interesting for US elections: Most of the increase of Lula seems to have come from previous non-voters (here, 1st round non-voters: 3 million):

Did you know that in 🇺🇸, everything is bigger? To wit, it's only 199 km in that weird metric system from Montreal to Ottawa in 🇨🇦, but 312 miles in the 🇺🇸?

Ich sei, gewährt mir die Bitte, / In eurem Bunde der Dritte! (Schiller, Die Bürgschaft, 1798). Indelibly imprinted on me from Gymnasium times (back then, I could recite the whole thing...) The tyrant is moved by loyalty, and somehow begs to be a part of this wonderful friendship.

Today, there is another buddy friendship. The 2 friends help each other out, like helping to wage a war... Today, the tyrant pays an admission fee of 1.3 million tons of diesel + 1 golden eagle to become part of the friendship, but of tyrants, betraying all other commitments. Not the same thing.

It's the anti-🍌 republic effort, and should apply to any future president, Democratic 🫏 and Republican🐘 . It should also apply retro actively...

German Reunification Day invites both gratitude and reflection. Gratitude, because the peaceful revolution of 1989 was nothing short of a miracle — a bloodless dismantling of a repressive regime. Reflection, because the wounds of the transition still mark the country —and because

Terrific postdoc opportunities available:

ROCKWOOL Foundation Berlin@rfberlin.bsky.social

📢 RFBerlin is hiring Postdoctoral Fellows in Economics. No teaching obligations, up to six years, unique datasets, and dedicated mentoring, a research-first home in Berlin. Apply by 10 November: buff.ly/v9Jz8ru #EconJobMarket #EconSky

Putting hi-tech sail drones to catch drugs that don't actually cross the Great Lakes? Nah, they're actually after other things: giant sea serpents! (expect the hires cameras to all of a sudden be fuzzy + B&W...) Gaasyendietha!

Let me get this right. Since 1940, the US & DK🇩🇰 had an agreement that allows US to build lots of bases on Greenland. Now, after threat of annexation, invasion of a NATO partner + other colonialist behavior: US & DK🇩🇰 have an agreement that allows US to build lots of bases on Greenland. Huh?

Nils Gilman@nilsgilman.bsky.social

The credulous coverage of Trump’s claimed “historic deal” in Greenland — which changes nothing of substance about the existing security agreement — is yet another embarrassing instance of the media “treating the kayfabe as real.” Why would a self-respecting reporter participate in this nonsense?

"Oz said that the fraudulent enrollees were identified based on their lack of health care use and other factors" So because you weren't YET sick, you got kicked out of health insurance? Are you trying to INCREASE wasteful spending? Because it's clear: even if you are NOT sick, go see a doctor! 🤪

Not posting it from @aeadata.bsky.social because that persona does not endorse anybody, but awesome job! Reproducibility is verified "before exit" (my term), i.e., before a paper or document is published, as a routine part of the publication workflow. Why? Credibility, transparency!

Of course AI 🤖 are going to wipe out humanity! 🧑‍🤝‍🧑🌍💣 They've been trained on all the science fiction literature that says exactly that's what they should do! Duh.

I'm not sure why most North American airports don't invest in fast trains to downtown cities. Instead they subject the 99% of us to insalubrous taxis, randos in cars on Uber, or suburban trains w random homeless people camping out (who I wish had better options). Trains, man!

Ah: Paris. Mostly ✅, direct access to some (not super practical) TGVs, and a slow suburban train (w/o internal campground; possibly bc of those policemen with machine guns at the entrance...) 😮

I think that one reason why psychologists are interested in metascience is that you are trying to improve a system full of scientists who don't want to be told what to do.

Just when you thought that you had heard enough "rogue AI" stories, they test a cyborg cockroach with a syringe.. Wait until Super-Chat-Claude-X breaks out of the lab, hacks a biolab, communicates with the world cockroach population & unleashes the vax-roach-bot. www.wired.com/story/cyborg...

wired.comThese Cyborg Cockroaches Could Save Your LifeThe team embedded electrodes into live cockroaches, then outfitted them with cameras and injection devices to deliver medication via remote control.

I'm always fascinated how amnesia leads to an endless news cycle... @wsj.com pulling its head out of the sand: "a new kind of plug-in vehicle called an extended-range EV." ... I present to you: Exhibit A: Chevy Volt, a kind-of-EREV introduced in 2010. Exh. B: OG BMW i3 (2013). Do your research!

Of course, the BMW i3 had a scooter engine... which could fit into the center console of the newer pickup trucks with room to spare... Maybe that's why they don't know about it...

I wonder if you can get one of these machines that takes larger coins, say $1 coins, and imprints on them a msg, say "Vote Democrat". Or print a duck. (I anonymized the image of the $1 to protect the guilty) Thank you for your attention to this matter.

In other news, Serhiy Viktorovych Lavrov, the Russian foreign minister, made a secretive visit to Mar-a-Lago for talks with the Greatest President Ever. He urged the Americans to end their war against Iran, Canada, or kind of everybody, before their military and economic situation gets worse.😜
