The UN has appointed Russian diplomat Gleb Desyatnikov as Assistant Secretary-General for Mine Action and Police in its Department of Peace Operations. The appointment places a Russian official in a senior UN role overseeing mine-action activities and police-related work within peace operations.

Moscow says there’s been a small accident but the situation is all under control. That’s how Pravda first reported the Chernobyl disaster, 30 April 1986, buried at the bottom of an inside page. In case anyone needs a reminder.

Today, the temporarily occupied town of Oleshky marks 942 years. Cut off from aid, ~1,700 residents endure drone attacks, mined roads, extreme food and medicine shortages, and unburied dead. 🧵 1/8

Canada strongly opposes the International Olympic Committee decision to admit russian athletes to competition with their flags and symbols. This is a step that normalizes and condones russia’s genocidal war on Ukraine. Ukrainian athletes murdered by russians cannot speak out – so we must do so.

I am appalled by the IOC’s decision to provisionally lift their sanction on the Russian Olympic Committee. Please see my statement on behalf of the Government of Canada, below:

The International Olympic Commitee is rewarding the russian terrorist state for its increasingly deadly attacks on Ukrainian civilians. Murdered Ukrainian athletes will never compete again but russians are free to compete with their flags and symbols.

⚡️ The IOC is dropping its ban on Russian athletes, letting sports federations decide if they can compete under their national flag again.

This is Ukraine’s foreign minister: ‘We expect strong reactions by international institutions and capitals. No vague words, silence, or weak steps. We need action now to stop Russian barbarism’

No words. The barbarians keep their nonsensical war against civilians and cultural heritage

An American president sues/extorts his own government, then settles with his own justice department to funnel money to his criminal allies. He will go down in history as the president who came up with forms of corruption never contemplated before.

US Treasury extends sanctions waiver for Russian oil by 30 days. Of course they do. Nobody cares that Russia leveled a residential building onto sleeping families using that oil money just days ago. Unfuckingbelievable.

The paradox is that those calling for these absolutely unacceptable concessions should know that if Ukraine were to cave, russia’s war would grow exponentially. Those who want peace end up advocating policies that fuel russia’s appetite for war. When will they learn?!

You know what's really embarrassing about this conflict? Iran has a 90 percent literacy rate while 50 per cent of the US reads at the 6th grade level or below. Iran sent Phds to the ceasefire talks. The US sent realtors.

On election day in Budapest, GRU agents posing as Ukrainians reportedly plan to seize buildings in the city center. Former Berkut fighters — Euromaidan veterans who fled to Russia — would play the role. The goal: hand a losing Orbán a pretext to declare emergency rule and void the results.

I don’t think people around the world realize how bad the attack on Lebanon was today. It’s BAD. Like 9/11 BAD. Hospitals are overflowing and do not have enough blood. We still don’t know what the death toll is. This is TERRORISM. Pure and Simple. April 8. Never forget.

Morally, legally, economically the war on Iran is disastrous and the disaster goes on for years no matter what happens now. But what cannot be overstated is that in pure national security terms it is also an unmitigated catastrophe.

Trump has been completely exposed as a Russian asset. To help Russia, Trump cut off military and humanitarian assistance to Ukraine, carried out fake peace talks for a year, threatened longstanding U.S. allies, started a war as a distraction, and eased sanctions on Russian oil.
