I'm not follower of trends. Fashion trends, music trends, hashtag trends; I tend to ignore these & do my own thing. An emerging trend that I'm 100% behind, however, is where folks who admire @glengrambo.bsky.social and his work repost one of his & wish him well as he recovers from a serious illness.

One of the amazing things about birds is how they seem to fly and manoeuvre in flight so effortlessly. But it’s hard work, and this little chipping sparrow shows us the fundamental key to flight … you may need to zoom in to see it, but it’s ALL in the way they hold their tongue! #Birds 🪶

Scientific name = Phrynarachne rugosa. Common name = Wrinkled Birddung Crabspider (probably the easier name to remember, if we're being honest). There are currently less than 130 iNaturalist observations of this species!

Oh Musk 😭#Ukraine

MeidasTouch@meidastouch.com

There it is. Elon Musk admits it. “That loophole was closed last week.” In a deranged post on X, Musk openly acknowledges that SpaceX recently restricted Ukraine’s ability to use Starlink.

Congratulations people & welcome to #Bat Week 🦇

Wow , did you know? ~ Bayeux

Reading Museum@readingmuseum.bsky.social

Haven’t got tickets for the Bayeux Tapestry at the British Museum? Don’t worry you can visit Reading's full-size copy, faithfully embroidered by 35 women in 1885-86 (plus extra pants!) Or latest blog compares the two tapestries www.readingmuseum.org.uk/blog/comparing-bayeux-and-reading-tapestries

Well folks, when you mess with #nature , ecology happens ( sh** happens ) @naee-uk.bsky.social

Most things have got better in my lifetime. People were poorer in the 80s, our school sports field was next to a rendering plant, there was more violence and racism in society, the roads were more dangerous, the food was worse. Sorry to the online world dealing in faux nostalgia.

Social media loves talking about how everything is getting worse. But what’s something that you’ve seen get _better_ in your lifetime?

Interesting and noteworthy re #animals

Ana Marie Cox@anamariecox.com

In 1990, about 20 million animals a year were euthanized in kill shelters. Today, over half the shelters in the US are designated no-kill and less than 500,000 animals are euthanized.

Great stuff, thanks for the reminder as these mammals are definitely something else!! They make super great mums too! @jackdashby.bsky.social you always inspire us to learn! #WorldWombatDay

Jack Ashby@jackdashby.bsky.social

If there were any justice in the world, every day would be #WorldWombatDay, but today is the official day to celebrate these glorious creatures that crush their enemies with their buttocks, dig burrows tens of metres long, constantly regrow their teeth, have babies called wombatlets, and poop cubes.

We forgot to post about #WorldMenopauseDay (brain fog, what can we say!). Fun fact: Aside from humans, toothed whales are the only animals that go through menopause. Scientists aren’t sure why. One theory is they help with child rearing—their presence can increase survival of their offspring.
