The actions of an honest person with nothing to hide

Jo Wolff@jowolff.bsky.social

Stories from Brazil suggest Flávio Bolsonaro has somehow fled the country despite his passport(s) being confiscated. Not clear yet if true. www1.folha.uol.com.br/colunas/moni...

It's astonishing that a BBC news presenter goes to bat for a particular party, even if it is an American party. I don't think I've ever seen this done so obviously

Peter Smith@redpeter99.bsky.social

The presenter of #r4today opines.

Jacob Murphy: for 89 minutes he plays like he's wearing clown shoes then he'll do something like this

Premier League@eng-premierleague.bsky.social

You'll struggle to find a better cross than this from Jacob Murphy 😲 @NUFC

This should end the prospect of any future government contracts with Musk companies. Neither he nor his companies can be trusted

I'm doing this to justify my stockpiling of USB and ethernet cables

He's been rummaging deep in the basement of Labour HQ and rumours are that he may have located the party's spine

Prime Minister Andy Burnham says he wants a more 'honest conversation' about freedom of movement, suggesting it could work better than post-Brexit immigration has. www.thetimes.com/uk/politics/...

I haven't seen this show but I've seen him a few times and it's really impressive to see him work live

European countries might want think about a similar ban on Tesla's, given the whole Starshield debacle

Starting Monday, no BYD car gets through the gates at Kadena Air Base in Okinawa, Japan. Not personal cars, not taxis, not delivery vans. The concern: cameras and sensors in modern EVs could collect data on the base. defence-blog.com/u-s-air-base...

Damning. What does this say about the sector at large? It's not like there's a lot of jobs going so people are deciding their future lies outside of HE

735 staff applying for voluntary redundancy at Ulster University Nearly a quarter of the workforce wants out! You can blame the funding model, but when the exodus is this huge University leadership cannot dodge the question: how did it get this bad? www.timeshighereducation.com/news/nearly-...

Raising the cost of consumer goods during a cost of living crisis? It's a bold strategy, Andy. It sounds harsh, but I think we need to stop trying to save high streets in their current form. The ship has sailed. Reimagine how they can be useful public spaces www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2026...

😳 Trump loses it and SNAPS at a string of reporters, says Ilhan Omar might "go to jail," calls Somalia "a shit house," and boasts that thanks to a new program he announced today Americans "will make millions of dollars by turning others in" during absolutely deranged Oval Office event Supercut:

Goodbye, Lenin presidency

News to Remember@moments2remember.link

Trump is literally waving at imaginary people now. On his way to another hate rally in Kansas, he suddenly stopped and started waving and saluting at people who weren’t there. Yes, this is real. And thank you for that perfect finale zoom-out, Mr. Nice Cameraman.

A self-respecting Democratic Party would be compiling a case for treason for when this guy is no longer protected

Adam Schwarz@adamjschwarz.bsky.social

Steve Witkoff to Putin: "You are a humanitarian also, sir. And I salute that, I commend you, and I thank you again."

My biggest achievement of the year was getting a parking fine cancelled. I even got one cancelled by Brighton Council once, which is like the final boss of parking control

Politics UK@politicsuk.com

🚨 NEW: Andy Burnham has announced changes to car parking fines - Drivers will have a 5-minute grace period to decide whether to park and 10 minutes to leave after a parking session ends - A £20 maximum charge on appeal for minor mistakes, such as entering the wrong number plate

Sorry but it's not a lottery: if it were the link between how hard things are for kids and where they live would be random. But it's not. True, there are some poorer places where things aren't too bad. But overall there's a significant correlation between living in a poorer area and poor provision.

bbc.co.ukChildren face extreme inequality in England, warns commissionerDame Rachel De Souza's landmark report says children are being failed by a "postcode lottery".

I repeat this a lot about Burnham, and Labour more generally. Left wing politicians need to be prepared to get into some fights

Sean T. Collins@seantcollins.com

Their politics are all different, but the appeal of Mamdani, Ossoff, and El-Sayed as speakers and campaigners is that they don't seem afraid they're going to get in trouble. That makes them hard to bully or even make fun of successfully.

You gotta hand to them

Alex Hern@hern.bsky.social

do think there's a danger of looking at extremely cool shit like a car driving upside down then doing a kickflip before landing, and convincing yourself it's actually lame because the guy funding it is a white supremacist

This is wishful thinking by pundits. It wasn't even particularly intimidating at Anfield. I don't think football journalists have quite understood how much most supporters have been beaten into apathy by the Premier League's collective greed

The Athletic@theathletic.com

The crowd at Anfield was focused on the away team. Other teams will likely follow suit, taking away a crucial part of the atmosphere www.nytimes.com/athletic/767...

I love that he doesn't even pretend to respect his supporters

Aaron Rupar@atrupar.com

Trump on what his fans could do with their $5k Trump check: "Let's go to Palm Beach and enjoy the president for lunch. Let's have lunch at Mar-a-Lago, where for $5,000 you'll get one hamburger and a small dessert."

All the expensive Lego sets I like looking at at the Leg shop, and an all-weather athletics track for my running club

Peter@notalawyer.bsky.social

question for the audience: if you were ultra rich (let’s say $25M), what completely frivolous thing are you buying?

It's always slightly odd reading stuff like this as a football fan. The idea that a star player wouldn't want to join one of the best teams to almost guarantee a title is pretty alien. But in general, US sports are just far more concerned with competitive balance

*frantically digging through my barrel of apples* There was to be at least one good one in here!

🚨 BREAKING: Reform MP Sarah Pochin was secretly recorded by ITV saying the party has a "male issue" and "excludes you if you’re a woman"

I don't think anything good ever comes from making welfare systems more complex. Good for a few headlines, I suppose

Financial Times@financialtimes.com

FT Exclusive: Younger benefits claimants will be given less cash in exchange for more intensive health and employment support under plans for a separate youth welfare system to be set out next month. ft.trib.al/9e34C2A

I could write the conclusions of that investigation right now just based on who is on the panel. Grifters and ghouls the lot of them

Peter Jukes@peterjukes.bsky.social

This is fun. The Critic Magazine - funded by some right wing billionaire, has teamed up with another criminally convicted right billionaire, to investigate Jason Arday (rather than their two writers prosecuted for sex offences). Oligarch media, and la trahison des clercs

It should be the lead story for every news outlet. The US has betrayed Ukraine for a couple of hours worth of diesel and, in turn, increased the threat to every European country. The consequences for Musk's companies should be swift and brutal. My guess is governments will chicken out

Ian Bond@cerianbond.bsky.social

This should set off a siren in every defence ministry in Europe: there needs to be much more urgency about developing autonomous capabilities, not subject to US caprices, for early warning of attacks, countering ballistic missiles, communicating with forces or controlling offensive weapons.

I'm at the point where I think we should give up on grading, move to a pass/fail system and evaluate students on evidence of learning in the classroom, assuming we aren't going back to closed book exams

Philip Cowley@philipjcowley.bsky.social

Those in less well run institutions tell me that AI use is clearly rampant, often obviously so, but attempts to clamp down on it never backed up by the powers that be, so staff already giving up and waving it through. Life's too short etc.
