NEW from me today: As physicians continue to navigate care for patients in states with abortion bans, a group of maternal-fetal medicine specialists has developed new guidelines to help providers in those states navigate legal risks for themselves and medical challenges for high-risk patients.

After two years of work alongside our partners at the Lawyering Project, it’s time to celebrate this much needed relief. We’ve dealt a major blow to Idaho’s abortion bans.

In response to our first-in-the-nation lawsuit, a federal judge in Idaho has ruled that the U.S. Constitution protects the right to abortion care for medical reasons.

This means that Idaho doctors can now offer abortion care to pregnant Idahoans experiencing serious threats to their physical or mental health.

Today, we took Montana’s anti-trans bathroom ban to court … again. After securing a temporary block on the law last year, we’re now fighting to strike it down permanently.

Here’s the plain truth about bathroom bans: The problem they claim to solve doesn't exist. Across the country, transgender people are able to use facilities that align with their gender identity, and there’s no evidence that allowing them to do so makes anyone less safe.

We will always stand for the right to live in peace as our authentic selves. Transgender, Two-Spirit, and intersex people belong in Montana.

Similar initiatives will appear on the ballot in Arizona and Colorado but unlike those measures, which would broadly require schools to designate athletic programs as definitively male, female or co-ed, Washington state’s initiative applies to only girls’ sports.

As our Idaho director, William Mitchell, wrote in the op-ed above, it should concern every Idaho parent that role models for youth are being turned into a veritable gender police force.

Schools and doctors’ offices work best when children know they can speak honestly with the adults responsible for their education and health.

As of July 1, a new law requires educators, healthcare providers, and childcare professionals to report youth to their parents for any behavior that falls outside rigid gender roles. Those who don't report could be investigated by the attorney general and fined up to $100,000.

BREAKING: The Supreme Court ruled that states can ban transgender girls from school sports. This is a devastating ruling for trans students across the country who simply want the freedom to play with their friends.

Importantly, the court did not grant politicians what we know they wanted from the start: a broad precedent restricting the freedom of all transgender people in our schools, workplaces, and communities. We will never stop defending trans people's equality and freedom.

We were relieved when the U.S. Supreme Court ruled against Louisiana's emergency filing in May, but the lawsuit is still moving forward in an appeals court. And it would be devastating if the state prevailed.

As Legal Voice’s Robin Turner told Stateline: “A lot of what being in these relationships is about is your world getting smaller, and we don’t want our systems to imitate the dynamics of abuse...

It shouldn’t be illegal to talk about abortion. But #Idaho politicians have been encroaching on the right to speak freely about the subject for years.

Mayday's mission is to share information about reproductive health care and gender-affirming care. This spring, it planned to display a mobile billboard in Nampa with a simple message: Pregnant? Don’t want to be? Learn more at mayday.health

However, Mayday was forced to cancel the billboard because it couldn’t guarantee that it would be safe from legal trouble. When it reached out to the attorney general, he refused to promise that he wouldn’t prosecute Mayday for exercising free speech.

There are TWO vague laws that make it a crime to publish “advertisements” about abortion. And another law attempts to block Idahoans from providing information about abortion to young people. Together, these laws make it nearly impossible to educate people about essential care.

So, we’re taking the state to court. Alongside our legal partners at Davis Wright Tremaine, we've filed a lawsuit on behalf of Mayday Health, a nonprofit health education organization.

However, a victory in this case has the potential to reverse this damage — and it would establish a legal precedent that could protect patients and providers far beyond Idaho.

After building our case alongside our partners at the Lawyering Project for more than two years, we’re ready to finally defend our fundamental rights in court.

Abortion bans create a chilling effect, causing doctors to fear investigation and prosecution for providing a wide range of pregnancy-related care. And since they can’t adequately serve their patients, many are fleeing the state. jamanetwork.com/journals/jam...

Idaho has lost numerous maternal-fetal medicine specialists and one third of its OB-GYNs, and three hospitals have stopped providing labor and delivery services entirely.

Medically indicated abortion care is a fundamental right guaranteed by the U.S. Constitution. It’s rooted in the rights to life and health, and it’s been legally protected in England and the United States since the earliest days of the common law.

But since the fall of Roe, Idaho politicians have attacked this right by passing some of the strictest abortion bans in the country. These laws have been devastating for patients, health care providers, and the public at large.
