Despite a very difficult loss in my family this week, I do want to share good news for once. I contributed music to Barbie™️: Rewind! I hope everyone will enjoy the Dreamhouse segments of the game. We all worked so hard on this!

this month I worked on a Cyberpunk 2077 rescore for funsies. and yes, of course there's metal! #cyberpunk2077 #wwise #gameaudio #composer

a piece of land where i could retire and start a not-for-profit hyrax rescue. i don't know what i'm exactly rescuing hyraxes from, seeing as i live in canada and they aren't endemic to canada, but yeah.

question for the audience: if you were ultra rich (let’s say $25M), what completely frivolous thing are you buying?

really important thread for all of my audio friends out there; it's important in times like this to comb through your plugin library and make sure it's free of vibecoded junk. thanks for doing this, @tildesounds.bsky.social . it's immensely helpful!

~@tildesounds.bsky.social

Because vibecoded vst plugins are flooding the market with slop these days I have been collecting a list of audio developers that explicitly state on their website that their code is not generated by AI. I think it's time to share the ones I have so far in a little thread i'll keep expanding:

right now it's really easy to visually identify slopware--lots of these plugins have a certain kind of look to their UI, such as similar typefaces and weird button placements. eventually, they'll wisen up. so it's vital that we find a way to vet and verify new audio devs that show up on the scene.

not so long ago, i followed a mega man legends decomp project with bated breath. now there's what looks to be several slop recomps out there and i have no interest in *any* of them. the scene has become a swamp. :/

Taka@takarikka.github.io

with the sunsetting of decomp.dev, people really need to come to terms with just how much damage vibecoders have done to our community and OSS in general. encounter is a fellow dusklight dev and friend, and seeing people treat him as replaceable in the scene is upsetting.

SISTER: (explaining the inner dynamics of kids hockey) "but Jax you see isn't good at passing the puck. Daxton and Brexton however are just so much better team players. And Loxan ..." ME: (nodding) "But why are so many nobodies on the team? Why is Organization XIII getting involved in youth sports?"

it's hard to believe that next year, it'll have been A DECADE since I did the OST for Super Retro Maker, an 8-bit level designer that unfortunately never came out. But it led to many collaborations with the fabulous @maenots.bsky.social, which I am grateful for! #chiptune #famitracker #NES

tactics ogre must have one of the most insanely fucking complicated endgames i've ever seen in any game. and not even just within its own genre. ALL of the endgame/postgame areas sort of dovetail into one another like a labyrinthe clusterfuck smorgasbord. it's masterful, but deranged.

In honor of BroodStar turning 6 today, I'm also putting the album up for 50% off ($2.00!!!)! That's less than the price of an espresso, and I guarantee you that these 17 tracks of high-octane 16-bit chiptune goodness will keep you going for hours on end! #vgm #chiptune #indiedev

BroodStar also has an absolute banger of a soundtrack made by the talented @leissmusic.bsky.social The range she puts on display here is ridiculous. Give it a listen even if you're not interested in the game! leiss.bandcamp.com/album/broods...

I recently spoke with someone who isn't familiar with me or my work. They weren't sure if my music was legit. so I'll say it now. I DO NOT use genAI at any point in my work, and NEVER will.

if anyone still doubts my work, I am more than happy to show off project file playthroughs of my songs. but it shouldn't be this way. there might come a point where that's not good enough either. there'll always be a seed of doubt now. is there a word for this kinda paranoia? if so let me know.

Sooo ... yeah. expect that all of my future releases will have a disclaimer on the description now. I feel like 70+% of our collective existence on the net now is occupied by having to prove that we're real and safe to interact with. it doesn't fucking bode well at all.

it's not how I was raised, and i gain nothing at all by not doing the work myself. i'm a jazz musician at heart, i do things the hard way, even if the results suck. I'm sad that I have to state it at all, but I guess it was only a matter of time until I got asked.

it's a sign of the very stupid times we live in. This annoying fucking technology is conditioning people to mistrust everything they see, even legitimate art. the well's been poisoned.

The first game I ever made, BroodStar (yes, it's named after the MtG card) is currently on sale for 50% off! It's a shmup roguelite that's easy to get into if you're new to both genres but also has a high skill ceiling for those who aren't. store.steampowered.com/app/1232100/...

nick and other dorks like him should be strapped into a torment nexus and forced to do a longplay of superman 64 with gyroscope controls.

Thread time! You're an indie dev, and you just hired a composer for your project after they blew you away with a demo reel. But now comes the hard part: how the hell do you actually brief them on how to write for your game? one word, plural. REFERENCES. but you need to dig deeper. how? read on!
