Harvard gives me hope

Barack Obama@barackobama.bsky.social

Harvard has set an example for other higher-ed institutions - rejecting an unlawful and ham-handed attempt to stifle academic freedom, while taking steps to make sure students can benefit from an environment of intellectual inquiry, rigorous debate and mutual respect. Let’s hope others follow suit.

Where the trade war with China could go: 1) Trump retaliates again 2) China retaliates by stopping buying, or selling, US Treasury bonds 3) T bond market collapses. (Interest rates skyrocket ) 4) Trump retaliates by defaulting on debt to (at least) China 5) economic chaos

Using the right language is important

Kidnapping. Capturing a person against their will without due process is called kidnapping. Transporting them to another country without due process is called human trafficking. A squalid extrajudicial prison for people found guilty of no crime is called a concentration camp.

He must have shorted the market. It’s the only thing that makes sense . If he did and gets away with it, the old evil or stupid debate is finally settled - evil. If he did not, well, he is just stupid.

Thank you @cantwell.senate.gov . I am sure it was my call to your office this morning, asking for exactly this that led to your decision to do this. :-)

Senators Chuck Grassley (R) and Maria Cantwell (D) just introduced a bill to reassert Congress’s power over tariffs. —President must notify Congress on new tariffs within 48 hours of imposition. —Congress must approve them within 60 days or they expire. www.cantwell.senate.gov/imo/media/do...

Glad to see not everyone bends the knee

🚨 BREAKING: I'm suing #RFKJr @ #HHS & #JayBhattacharya @ #NIH Canceling medical research grants threatens innovations benefiting ALL Americans, no matter your politics! 🇺🇸 Thanks to my lawyers @aclu.org @aclum.bsky.social @protectdemocracy.org & @cspi.bsky.social Long 🧵 on why I'm suing 👇 1/

Make no mistake. This is a war on science and a war on health. People will die.

The fall out from these grant terminations will be immeasurable. Important, life saving work will immediately stop. Brilliant scientists will be pushed out of the field or the country, ensuring that even if NIH funding is restored, the US will be worse off for generations to come.

I used to criticize those who called for the abolishment of ICE. I now see I was probably wrong. But more importantly, we need to punish its ultimate boss. Without due process, no one is safe, even if you are a citizen. How could you prove it?

Trump is upset by Canada taxing electricity sold to the US , so he puts a tariff on the electricity bought by Americans. So he’s upset that Americans are having to pay too much for electricity, and his solution is to make them pay even more for electricity. Did I get that right?

This is Marco Rubio explaining how the USA promised to defend Ukraine forever if they got rid of their nuclear arsenal left after the Soviet Union fell. This is why lil marco was sinking into the couch. He was hoping we wouldn’t find it…so don’t RT right now this very second.

Maybe something good will come out of this. Maybe a few Supreme Court justices , senators, representatives, or even the President will decide not to comply. THAT could solve the problem.

Undocumented immigrants sometimes pay INTO social security, but they cannot collect. Removing them from Social Security hurts the solvency of the system and does nothing to help America or Americans.
