These stats may create an impression that all native speakers understand papers well, write well and give good presentations. In my experience, none of this is true, and more often than not native speakers don't write well at all, and it's probably too late for them to learn, as it takes time.

Does anyone have connections to soil scientists in India or experience sampling in India? I'm working on a Nutrient Network study and trying to negotiate the process of shipping soils back from India to the US for processing. Would love to connect with anyone who has done this before! #soil

and a lot, if not most, of the work we do is just a pointless busywork, box ticking exercises - yes they are easy to do, but they eat up the time and energy, and could be either done by someone else who doesn't also need to do research, or even better - noone, because...busywork, innit.

If talent and opportunity were equally distributed, the average #NobelPrize winner would come from a middle income background. The reality? The average laureate grew up in a household just below the top 10%. More than 50% come from the top 5%. 🧪🎩💰 www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...

ok, we all had emails from UG students that start with "Hi," , "Hi Ms X" or "Dear Your_Name_Terribly_Misspelt", but "Hi @your_email" is the first one for me... Are we at the point where we need to teach UGs how to write an email yet?
