If you live in Chicago and you vote, you owe it to yourself to read @chicagodsa.bsky.social's school board voter guide! It's free, it's meticulously researched, and it gives you tons of background about why these races matter and how we're just now getting a school board. Very proud of my comrades.

chicagodsa.org2026 Chicago School Board Voting Guide - Chicago DSAIntroduction This November, Chicago voters will decide who will represent them and their families on Chicago’s Board of Education for the first time in the city’s history. This monumental election is ...

I had no idea ole Moz had even written a novel, let alone that it was such a complete flood of poohs

The Author, Séamas O'Reilly@seamas.bsky.social

Penguin released not one, but *two* books by Morrissey in their Classics line. One was the memoir excoriated by AA Gill, but the other was his novel List Of The Lost, which was much, much worse. 11 years ago this week, I read it so you don't have to. www.balls.ie/the-rewind/m...

I have long maintained that there is no worse written line in the English language than "I am the son and the heir of a shyness that is criminally vulgar" but this thing beats it like five times on every page. Honestly kind of impressive it could all come from one person

No one is more self-deprecating about their work than I am but remind me, please, the next time you clock me doing so, that I could never write this badly: "the pained frenzy of his bulbous salutation extenuating his excitement as it whacked and smacked its way into every muscle of Eliza's body"

It's not ideal that I have somehow managed to injure my knee badly enough to miss work, but the fact that this injury seems to have taken place while I was in bed asleep adds an element of humiliation that I'm pretty unprepared for

Counterpoint: the Brewers are an AL team

lauren@lauren.rotatingsandwiches.com

every fan of an AL team should be experiencing secondhand shame that this is the best team their league produced. you should all feel like Lord Toranaga when Tadayoshi spoke out of turn at the Council of Regents

I see another bourgeois liberal has become disenchanted at the most recent incident of bourgeois liberalism paving the way for fascists, and the other bourgeois liberals are upset about it

I don't even care about the article itself or its author, I'm not defending anyone's position here, especially an interior designer who gets platformed on a big website for noticing the obvious. Hopefully this is a wakeup call that puts her on the right path, but one person is not that important

It's just not a hopeful sign that in 2026, the mere suggestion that the "opposition party" might in any way hold some responsibility for the political conditions of the country over which they have shared exclusive co-governance for a century fills people with incoherent rage.

I see another bourgeois liberal has become disenchanted at the most recent incident of bourgeois liberalism paving the way for fascists, and the other bourgeois liberals are upset about it

I'm sure this bodes well for the imminent victory and return to power of the bourgeois liberal party, and how these same people will react to the likely direction it will take in regards to pushing back on the fascists they definitely did not help empower in any way whatsoever

Never examining your failures, the failures of your own decisions, the failures of the party you voted for, or the failures of the politics and ideology you profess to believe in is a solid recipe for change. Never holding anyone responsible for anything is how things get better, it's axiomatic

All you are doing when you broadcast your "we have to win right now so stop putting conditions on your vote" positions is telling the world, very much including the candidates whose bullshit politics you're voting for, that you're an easy mark

No politics, no material analysis, no personal stake in your vote, just a willingness to hand over your wallet to the nice inspector as long as he's wearing the right color tie. Embarrassing. Grow up

What's especially humiliating is you not only broadcast your status as a cheap date to the world, you actually make the argument that you're the mature one, that you're not a prize sucker at all but rather a realist, a pragmatist, a sober assessor of the situation, one of the *good* ones. Pathetic

I'd like to thank my brain for insisting, starting at 4AM and continuing for the next two and a half hours while I tried to sleep, for insisting that the most important thing I should be doing was finishing a YouTube tutorial on how to make homemade pasta.

Extra thanks for the fact that I never started watching the tutorial in the first place and that it does not actually exist but is just something my brain made up instead of sleeping

America truly is the land of people who don't know what communism is but know they hate it getting mad at other people who don't know what communism is but know they hate it
