Somewhere, a girl is being praised for how easily she yields to a man, and because it is praise, she cannot see the cage taking shape around her. By the time she is a woman, obedience may feel so much like love that she will hand a man the right to hurt her and apologize for making his hand ache.

Saving girls begins years before the apology letter. It begins the first time she is praised for silence when she wants to speak. Teach girls that disappointing a man be the first step toward saving themselves.

After teaching women to kneel, conservative men are laughing at the bruises on her knees. They trained the obedience and mock those of us who refuse it, yet Harp should stand as a warning to right-wing women: they will mock you for performing that obedience too.

She remains accountable for using that devotion in service of a man who has harmed countless people. Her earlier pages, though, were written around her by an ideology that made self-erasure feel virtuous.

Harp absorbed the lesson conservatives teach women so deeply that she built her entire sense of worth around pleasing Trump. But it isn’t just us noticing how absurd this is. Right-wing men are laughing.

I contacted a woman from the administration at his church because I thought she might be most likely to care. The only woman listed I might add. And she did. It took awhile but he was eventually removed from their website and she said he no longer works there.

He was replaced with another man, who perhaps will make himself my next victim.
