Alongside my paper, I was asked a few questions by the JEB about my research journey and life! Have a read here: doi.org/10.1242/jeb.... ๐ฆ๐ง๐ผโโ๏ธ๐๐๏ธ

๐ฅณ New paper alert ๐ฅณ The first of the data chapters from my DPhil, and the works from my first few field seasons on Skomer, is out! "Shearwaters make efficient navigational decisions, even at very fine scales" - doi.org/10.1242/jeb.... A huge thank you to everyone involved ๐ฉต
I cannot thank the team of @skomerisland.bsky.social enough for letting me live and work on this incredible island over the past four years.
Thank you to my co-authors, Sarah, Joe M, Trina, Joe W, Paddy, Alana, Emma, Barbara, and Max. And of course, my supervisors, Tim Guilford and Oliver Padget. @morfjoe.bsky.social @katrina-siddiqi.bsky.social @joewynnbirds.bsky.social @plewin.bsky.social @olliepadget.bsky.social

Following this finding, we discuss the learning mechanisms that may underpin this navigational efficiency - including how birds might distinguish between routes where the absolute difference in payoff is minimal, but the relative payoff is large. Give it a read! doi.org/10.1242/jeb....
You are up to date.
