Our best wishes to Milan Baros, a Czech striker who spent three and a half year at Liverpool, one of the unsung heroes of the 2005 Champions League final! Milan was born on 28 October 1981 in Valasske Mezirici and signed for the Reds from Banik Ostrava in Dec 2001. 1/2 📸 mustapha_ennaimi - CC BY 2.0

Baros netted 27 goals in 108 official appearances for Liverpool. With 13 goals in 2004-2005 season, he was Liverpool's top goalscorer that campaign (joint with Luis Garcia and Steven Gerrard).

Liverpool FC - Manchester City on 27 October 1906. If it was played a hundred years later, people would call it an all-time classic. Bobby Robinson bagged a first-half hat-trick in an incredible 9-goal thriller!

Manchester City watched prime Kenny Dalglish pull out a masterstroke performance at Maine Road on 27 October 1979, as the Scottish forward set up David Johnson to score the first goal of the game, then adding another two himself in a 4-0 hammering, as the Reds were on course to defend the title.

27 Oct 2018: a 4-1 win and a first strike from Xherdan Shaqiri The Swiss international scored one of the goals as the Reds beat Cardiff 4-1 at Anfield, with other goals coming from Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane (2). Callum Paterson got the consolation goal for the visitors. 📸 The Liverpool Way 1/2

Shaq scored 8 goals for Liverpool FC, with arguably the most memorable ones being the brace in the second half of the home game against Manchester United in December 2018. 2/2

Only a second-half goal from the great Steve Heighway separated the two teams when Liverpool FC faced Leeds United at Anfield on 26 October 1974. A 1-0 win meant Bob Paisley's Reds took the lead in the First Division, sitting a point ahead of Manchester City, despite having a game in hand.

Paul Walsh scored two goals for Liverpool FC when the Reds beat his former team Luton Town 3-2 at Anfield on 26 October 1985. The third goal came from Jan Molby, assisted by Walsh. 1/2 📸 Jarle Vines - CC BY-SA 3.0 NO

He had a great start at LFC, scoring 31 goals in his first two campaigns, but then injuries, combined with the arrival of other world-class attackers to the club, hampered his sharp progress and he ended up leaving for Tottenham in 1988.

4 years ago today, goals from Mo Salah, Darwin Nunez and Harvey Elliott gave Liverpool FC a 3-0 win over Ajax side that contained loads of familiar names to any Premier League fan. The Reds won 5 out of 6 games in the CL group stage that season, but then they lost to Real Madrid in the round of 16.

Before the Elisha Scott era, there was Sam Hardy between the sticks and he did a fantastic job for Liverpool FC, keeping 63 clean sheets in 240 appearances and helping the team win the First Division in 1906. 1/2

On a 60th anniversary of his death, we remember the goalkeeper from Newbold (Chesterfield) who spent 7 years at Anfield, following a move from Chesterfield Town in May 1905. 2/2

Arthuir Riley, a goalkeeper from Boksburg in South Africa who succeeded Elisha Scott between the sticks, was 21 when he made his debut for Liverpool FC on 24 October 1925. He went on to make 338 official appearances for the Reds over the years, with the last one coming against Man Utd in May 1939.

TWO LEGENDARY BROTHERS WHO HELPED SHAPE THE CLUB IN ITS EARLIEST DAYS: Matt and Hugh McQueen joined Liverpool FC from Leith Athletic on 23 October 1892. LFC legends are not only the men who played for Shankly, Paisley or Dalglish... 1/2

Our best wishes to Fabinho Tavares who turns 33 today! Born on 23 October 1993 in Campinas, the Brazilian midfielder signed for the Reds in the summer of 2018 from AS Monaco. He won the Champions League, Premier League and both domestic cups with the Reds. An exceptional midfielder in his prime.

David Johnson would be 75 today. He was born in Liverpool on 23 October 1951 and started his career at Everton. After a four-year spell at Ipswich, 'Doc' signed for Liverpool FC in 1976, where he enjoyed six successful years, before re-joining Everton. He scored 78 goals for the Reds... 1/2

... winning four First Division medals, three European Cups, two League Cups and a European Super Cup. That's a tremendous six-year spell. Sadly, David passed away on 23 November 2022. May he rest in peace. 2/2

Two weeks before demolishing them 6-0 at Anfield, Liverpool FC beat Real Sociedad 3-1 at Estadio de Atocha on 22 October 1975. Steve Heighway opened the scoring in the first half, while Ian Callaghan and Phil Thompson netted after the interval. 1/2

Carmelo Amas, a Real Sociedad and RCD Espanyol legend, scored a consolation goal for the home team, the final goal in the right-winger's playing career. The Reds moved a step closer to winning the UEFA Cup at the end of that season. 2/2

Having signed for the Reds on 22 October 1981 from Ayr United, Steve Nicol enjoyed a long and successful career at Liverpool FC. Always ready to give his best, Nicol was used by LFC managers in several positions on the pitch and he found it easy to adapt to a new role. A bit of an unsung hero.

The reigning champions of Europe travelled to the Netherlands and played AZ Alkmaar on 21 October 1981. Alkmaar had won their first Eredivisie title earlier that year, a shocking achievement for a team formed only 14 years before. David Johnson put the Reds 1-0 ahead in the first half... 1/3

... and only a few minutes after the interval Sammy Lee made it 2-0. All done and dusted? Not quite. Kees Kist pulled one back for the Dutch side, with just over half an hour remaining. Kees Tol equalised in the dying minutes. The Reds returned to Liverpool a bit disappointed... 2/3

...but they would win the second leg 3-2 and advance to the European Cup quarterfinals, where they would face CSKA Sofia. Read more and watch highlights: www.lfchistory.net/games/1236 3/3 📸 Hans van Dijk / Anefo, Nationaal Archief (CC0)

Wishing Chris Lawler a very happy 83rd birthday! Born in Liverpool on 20 October 1943, he joined Liverpool FC in 1959, made his professional debut in 1963 and remained at Anfield until 1975, winning three First Division titles, two FA Cups and a UEFA Cup. A true hero of the Bill Shankly era. 1/2

A 1-0 defeat to Trabzonspor on 20 October 1976 - following a 7-0 aggregate win over Crusaders, Liverpool FC had a tough trip in the European Cup second round. The match programme seems to be more legendary than the game itself, as it is very much sought after and can reach truly ridiculous prices.

Our best wishes to Ian Rush who turns 65 today! Born in St Asaph on 20 October 1961, the Welshman spent a total of 15 years at Anfield across two brilliant spells, scoring 346 goals for Liverpool FC, a club record. He's not a striker. He's THE striker. Happy birthday, Rushie! 📸 Rob C. Croes / Anefo

Liverpool FC have been certified League Cup specialists in the recent years, reaching 3 finals between 2022 and 2025, winning 2 of them. Their first ever League Cup game came on 19 October 1960, as they drew 1-1 with Luton Town at Anfield in the 2nd round, conceding a last-minute equaliser. 1/2

Since then, the Reds have won the competition 10 times, more than any other team, first lifting the trophy in 1981 under Bob Paisley. 2/2

Willie Stevenson signed for Liverpool FC from Rangers for a fee of £20,000 on 19 October 1962. He was about to win two First Division titles in 1964 and 1966 respectively, as well as the club's first ever FA Cup in 1965. 1/2 📸 Nationaal Archief (CC0)

Emlyn Hughes took his place in the team in 1967, resulting in Stevenson leaving the Reds for Stoke City at the end of December. 2/2

After making exactly 100 appearances for Liverpool FC, Joey Jones returned to Wrexham on this day in 1978. A back-to-back European Cup winner with the Reds, the Welsh fullback remains one of the cult heroes among Liverpool fans, while at Wrexham they are extremely proud of his legacy at the club🏆️

It's really hard to believe Ian Rush scored his 1st ever goal at Old Trafford on 18 October 1992, over 12 years after first joining Liverpool FC. Rush found the net in the first half as the Reds were 2-0 up after 45 minutes, but Man United managed to equalise after the interval and it ended 2-2. 1/2

It was believed that this goal made Rush surpass Sir Roger Hunt as the club's all-time top goalscorer, as it was his 287th strike - years later it was corrected that Hunt had actually scored 285, not 286 goals, meaning that Ian Rush had already been a record-holder before that game. 2/2

John Aldridge scored in his tenth consecutive league game when Liverpool FC played QPR on 17 October 1987 at Anfield. Aldo netted from the penalty spot, and his 10 league games with at least one goal in a row is still a club record. 1/2

No other player scored for the Reds in 9 back-to-back league games and there are three players who had a scoring streak of 8 consecutive games (and each streak had 10 goals in total) - Daniel Sturridge (2013-14), Dick Forshaw (1924) and, once again, John Aldridge (1989). 2/2

Xabi Alonso took Salif Diao's place at halftime as Liverpool were 2-0 down to Fulham at Craven Cottage on 16 October 2004. What happened next is a great example of never giving up, the Liverpool Way at its finest. The Reds found the net twice, but Josemi was sent off. LFC were reduced to 10 men. 1/2

However, Xabi scored his first goal for Liverpool FC only a couple of minutes later and then Igor Biscan wrapped it up, making it 4-2 to the Rafael Benitez's side! 📸 Phillip Chambers, CC BY-SA 2.5 2/2

16 October 2022 In all honesty, I wasn't feeling confident and full of hope as I took my seat that Sunday afternoon. Liverpool had won only two of their eight league games prior to this fixture, but the team really stepped up. A goal from Mohamed Salah gave the Reds a 1-0 win over Man City🔥

Emile Heskey bagged a hat-trick when Liverpool FC travelled to Pride Park and humiliated Derby County 4-0 on 15 October 2000. Heskey finished that campaign with 22 goals in all competitions to his name and the Reds won the historic treble: UEFA Cup, FA Cup and League Cup.

Florent Sinama-Pongolle made his first-team debut while his cousin Anthony Le Tallec scored his only goal in 32 appearances as Liverpool FC beat Olimpija Ljubljana 3-0 at Anfield on 15 October 2003. Sinama Pongolle entered the pitch after 60 minutes, replacing... Anthony Le Tallec.

Chris Lawler was one of the heroes when Liverpool beat Juventus 2-0 at Anfield on 13 Oct 1965, overcoming the one-goal deficit from the 1st leg of the Cup Winners' Cup 1st round. That journey would eventually lead them to the final at Hampden Park, where LFC lost 2-1 to Borussia Dortmund (aet) 1/2

Not bad for just their second season in European football, especially given the fact the Reds should have reached the European Cup final the season before if it wasn't for the infamous trip to San Siro and the refereeing scandal in the semifinal... Image courtesy of the Lawler family. 2/2

Gerard Houllier suddenly collapsed during Liverpool's home game v Leeds United on 13 October 2001 and was immediately taken to the Broadgreen Hospital, where he underwent a 13-hour surgery. Thankfully, the heroic work of the surgical team saved his life and he went on to make a full recovery.

12 October 1946 Forward Cyril Done scored on his official reds debut as we were held 1-1 by Charlton Athletic at home. He had also scored in the previous first-class reds game in which he had played - seven years before, just before the outbreak of war when the season was cancelled. 1/2
