They can also be a slot machine for the mind

debugging a protocol be like: hold on a minute while I sharpen my acks

it's strange that IO-Link, despite being much more recent, still uses the term "Master" when SPI, I2C, and co. have made so much effort to move away from that loaded term

Genuinely insane that Yocto fails to build if a layer doesn't have a license properly specified. I do not care about what the lawyers have to say, I'm just trying to get my Jetson image to build. ffs.

This feels like a post from circa 2023, not 2026. It’s almost quaint.

the most sophisticated large language model is no closer to artificial general intelligence than an alarm clock, and it will never get any closer

I've made a tool for visualizing data from an embedded Rust target using @rerun.io All of the metadata like the entity path strings are interned in the elf file which the host tool reads so no space is taken up on the device.

Because of this, sending data points requires very few bytes enabling very high frequency data with not much overhead. The API is very simple (for now) and similar to prior art like defmt. In fact it can forward defmt logs to rerun as well.

New driver board for this old robot arm I saved after a local university flooded. 7 axes with quadrature encoders all driven from one STM32G4. Firmware in Rust of course.

Rules of optimization - Don't do it - Do it later - Do it less - Do it in batches - Do it in parallel - Do it somewhere else - Cache it (avoid redoing it)

Not sure what to do with this USB-CAN adapter design. After reducing the design cost as much as possible, I would still have to sell it for $70AUD. It has features that alternatives don't, like CAN FD, galvanic isolation, and Rust firmware, but at 5x the cost I'm not sure if it will sell.

I guess that's one way to transport CPUs... Seller: "The surrounding motherboard around the sockets were cut instead to safely extricate the CPUs which now serves as a CPU transport carrier. I cannot think of a better and safer way to transport these CPUs"

Starving future generations because you think having humans toil under the sun is a virtue.

NEW: Companies are already selling robots that pick fruit and vegetables and weed bots that can tell baby ragweed from baby carrots. Corporations are trying to automate farming. Time for farming communities to come together to resist, writes journalist, organizer, and farmer @suzan63.bsky.social:

Man these S32K1’s really do brick themselves if you breath on them wrong… Down to two of my original five sample chips. I’m going to have to find an alternative for this project because this is pathological behaviour that I can’t risk in a product.

I really wanted Shapr3d to be my CAD solution, but it looks like I’m headed back to Fusion. The UI is good but the UX still has some ways to go. Really I just long for the Inventor of days past but I can’t justify the money.

The best part of my job is learning new things. The worst part of my job is when I don’t get a choice in the new thing I learn (Windows Device Drivers).

Tried an electropolished stencil for the first time. Didn’t notice any difference in paste quality, but cleaning the stencil after was much better. Worth the few dollars more for a stencil that’s going to get 10+ uses.

You are up to date.
