Abandoning Afghan allies who risked their lives to support US troops in Afghanistan betrays the honor of our women and men in uniform. @crow.house.gov and I introduced a bipartisan bill to restore and extend temporary protective status for tens of thousands Afghan nationals and their families.

mercurynews.comRep. Sam Liccardo’s bill to reinstate protections for Afghan refugees has stalled. Now, he’s turning to an obscure procedural rule to force a voteOnce considered rare, discharge petitions have become more common during the Trump era.

I will push to force a floor vote on the bill in November. Many more injustices need to be righted in this Administration’s approach to immigration, but until January, I’ll keep pushing for those opportunities available with bipartisan support.

Thanks to Frank & Molly Carbajal for many years of bringing our community together to celebrate Latino success and support the ganas of our youth. Our local Latino community continues to be a beacon to our troubled nation of the extraordinary power and promise of diversity.

Meet Tinkerbell, the 2026 Prettiest Pumpkin! She weighs a delicate 293 pounds, and proud grower Vince Zunino hails from Los Altos Hills. I love that they named this category after my friend and coastsider Joe Cotchett. Photo by Ashton Hacke

Gilroy and Mountain View are the latest cities to join our growing regional effort to restrict new ICE detention facilities. Thank you to Mayors Greg Bozzo and Emily Ann Ramos and their city councils for taking action to protect their communities.

Grateful and relieved that Raja and others were not harmed by this hateful, unspeakable act. Anti-Indian violence has no place in America.

My family and I were worshipping at our Hindu temple in Aurora on Sunday when a white supremacist attempted a mass shooting targeting Indian Americans. I'm grateful to those who prevented a tragedy, but we must all come together to confront the hatred that put so many innocent lives at risk.

Every American must feel safe to freely and joyfully join with others in their faith communities, and we must do more to protect our synagogues, temples, mosques, and churches.

Great to join the 17th Annual Silicon Valley African Film Festival in San Jose! This year’s festival showcased 76 films from 33 countries, bringing powerful stories and new perspectives to our community.

A special thank you to Tam Nguyen, a former colleague on the San José city council, for his years of dedication to our community. Wishing him all the best in retirement!

Ilhan has been a US citizen for more than a quarter century—longer than Elon Musk. This weaponization of our Justice Department is unAmerican and despotic.⬇️

I call on my Republican colleagues to join us in demanding immediate congressional oversight, and consequences for those immigration officials unwilling to carry out their oath to uphold the Constitution.

California’s history began long before statehood. For generations, indigenous communities have shaped our state, cared for our lands, and preserved their histories and traditions. Today, we celebrate their enduring contributions, resilience, and the many ways they continue to shape our country.

Publicizing executions won't make our communities safer. Research suggests it could do the opposite, increasing violence and desensitizing people to brutality. We should focus on reducing violence, not putting executions on display.

We know many across our community feel anxious right now as they hear about potential increased enforcement. Based on what we’re hearing from our community partners right now, enforcement activity in our district so far has involved targeted arrests, not the large-scale operations seen elsewhere. 🧵⬇️

Three years later, that pain endures in the rise of hate at home and abroad and the devastating toll of the war that followed. We must continue to confront terrorism, antisemitism, and hate in all its form
