New preprint: When should you use linear mixed models (LMMs), and when is repeated-measures (RM) ANOVA enough? LMMs offer greater flexibility. But does that make them a better default? My paper argues for statistical parsimony: use RM-ANOVA when both methods are appropriate. osf.io/preprints/ps...

📣📣📣 Preprint Alert! 📣📣📣 Do predictive processes shape brain representations during learning? We investigated the effect of Predictive Coding by training identical recurrent networks with different optimization procedures and then comparing them to human EEG under the same visual learning task.

What an opportunity to work with the brilliant @roxana-zeraati.bsky.social - apply if you can!! Can't wait to see what's coming out of this new lab ✨

Some incredibly exciting news that still feels a bit surreal: I am starting my research group @mpicybernetics.bsky.social! The best part? We are hiring at all levels! Curious about the science we plan to tackle, read along :) #NeuroSky

In contrast to most lab settings, motivational demands (= required effort to achieve a goal) in the real world are often uncertain and learned from experience. Here, we took a first step to study the relevant learning and inference mechanisms when required effort changes unpredictably.

Rong Bi@rongbi.bsky.social

Very excited to share our first effort-learning paper in @plosbiology.org! Huge thanks to my wonderful co-authors @Jan Grohn, @thepsychologist.bsky.social and to my co-senior authors @mkflugge.bsky.social and @lilweb.bsky.social, for all their effort on this fun project. doi.org/10.1371/jour...

@rongbi.bsky.social carefully analysed force traces and identified signatures of effort expectations (priors) and update processes. This is exciting as it opens up the possibility of studying individual differences in effort learning and the role of internal states for reward-effort tradeoffs.

Come join us for a workshop on Neuro-AI in Osnabrück this autumn! Excited about the discussion-style format and it happening in my new home ✨

Tim Kietzmann @timkietzmann.bsky.social

Happy to announce the 3rd iteration of NEAT (Neuro-AI-Talks), which will take place in Osnabrück September 14th-15th 2026. NEAT is a (deliberately small scale) NeuroAI workshop that brings together researchers from neuroscience and AI. www.kietzmannlab.org/neat2026/ More information below 👇
