I could expel an approximately 200 lb. Goose*. * Specifically, Goose Gossage, the 74-year old retired MLB pitcher.
what is the largest animal you are confident you could expel, singlehandedly, from a medium-size bookshop? RULES: - you have no resources beyond what is available in the shop - you must remain more or less uninjured - bookshop has 2 floors; animal is on ground floor, you can choose where you begin
Quote this from the time you didn't interact with someone famous, if you want. It’s a little inverted, but my spouse and I were queuing to go into Hamilton, when a guy in an “Immigrants feed America” t-shirt asked if he was underdressed.
In the early 90s I shared a hotel elevator with Emilio Estevez and I got out on my floor not having exchanged a single word with him
I just realized that Jim Lee cribbed the WildC.A.T.s backstory from Transformers…
After some consideration, the most spectacularly inept villains in fictional history are the Decepticons. They transform into into guns and fighter jets. They fight people who transform into the space-equivalent of VW Beetles. They have been unsuccessfully waging this war for FIVE MILLION YEARS.

Apparently I’m cynical enough to assume “halted for efficacy” meant “stopped development because it would prove unprofitable”… It’s nice, sometimes, to have your cynicism disproven. (see the next post in rah’s thread for the actual meaning)
We talked about this back when the first trial for lenacapavir first said the magic words everyone wants to hear, "halted for efficacy"(*), so a recap: this is not a vaccine or a treatment. It's PrEP aka "pre-exposure prophylaxis": you take the drug so if exposed to the virus, you will not catch it.

Explain your username: In Elizabeth Bear’s novel “Grail”, she coins the term “sophipath”, refering to people that are pathologically incapable of accepting facts that are contrary to their accepted dogma. I briefly considered what the opposite would be and started using it as my username.
Edene of Elizabeth Bear’s The Eternal Sky trilogy deals with an arguably more powerful ring of power and, ultimately, disposes of it herself. This is a bit of a cheat, because Bear is rather obviously referencing Tolkien with that storyline, but I’ve decided that it counts nonetheless.

I’m about 25% of the way through T. Kingfisher’s “Paladin’s Grace” and so far my biggest conclusion is that these dorks need a consultation with @drnerdlove.bsky.social.
So, I thought of this thread when I was browsing Barbies… It’s not perfect (the wheels aren’t cambered), but it’s got push bars, a low back, and no push-handles, so I think this is a representational win?
Manual wheelchair: a wheelchair designed to be propelled by the person using the chair. They range from clunky uncomfortable heavy beasts to sleek elegant designs. They have push rims on the wheels, usually minimal or no arm rests, and are generally designed to maximize mechanical advantage.
I don’t listen to enough radio to even know what would qualify. Ignoring that, my first choice would be Radney Foster’s “All That I Require” (which would certainly not qualify). It’s completely unsubtle, but who cares at this point? youtu.be/rgAs9sZA-XQ?...
I’m going to need @cstross.bsky.social’s New Management sub-series to be filmed, specifically so that Anthony Stewart Head can achieve a Rupert trifecta.
You are up to date.
