I used to hate the smudge tool, but now I love it. It took me a while to figure out which settings were just right for a perfect blurred edge! I don't gatekeep, so I made a free smudge brush set! I've been using it in all my recent art. Grab it here: links.loish.net

I painted this when late summer was slowly evolving into fall. Lush green leaves and early sunsets with golden light hitting the leaves. The changing of the seasons always has an impact on me.

Is an inconsistent style a bad thing? Two things are true at the same time: Your style doesn't *have* to be consistent. But being able to create a consistent style is a super important skill, especially for projects! I made a video about it! It's on my Patreon ~ www.patreon.com/posts/171604...

Dang yall, thanks so much for the support 😭 Usually I ignore the random AI accusations but I wanted to take the chance to talk about how important it is to do your research in times like these. Didn't expect to get soooo many kind comments though! We gotta stick together, my beloved art community ♥️

Wow. LOISH got accused of using Ai to make her art. I started following her on early deviantart. I remember first seeing her paintings in college. This is ridiculous, no one is safe. Artists Ive followed for actual decades are getting harassed because their work has been stolen and regurgitated.

I’m experimenting more with layering my colored pencils. It’s so satisfying! But also easy to overdo it, which is an eternal struggle I face as a digital artist without an undo button.

I just launched a new print collection! The Splash collection features 11 of my favorite water-themed paintings as prints. They come in two sizes and you get 15% off if you buy 3 or more! Orders close in 9 days, so don’t wait too long 🌊 Find them here: loish.shop/collections/...

Dark meets light ⚫⚪ I’m hooked on painting chromatic aberration effects by hand. Even more fun than just hitting the filter button!

Still trying to find my flow with colored pencils. Every time still feels like the first time, so I’m trying to find a workflow that I can replicate. More to come! ✏️

Sunsets are so pretty, but whatever you do, DON’T look directly at the sun!! Be safe: look at paintings of the sun instead. I am posting these for your personal eye health. You’re welcome!

I just launched a new tier on my Patreon: the Ember tier 🌟 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ For $2.50, you get a monthly wallpaper pack, early access to my art, and year-round access to discounted prints! If you want to support me but wanna skip tutorials and challenges, this is for you 💛 patreon.com/loish/membership

Reaching for a star ✨ This one turned out christmassy and summery at the same time. Did you know that Christmas in July is a thing? Consider this my contribution 🎄

This one started as a drawing in my sketchbook, and then she blossomed into a digital painting 🌸 Still on my lifelong quest to paint the roundest, chunkiest, most squishable roses.

It’s warm again and I’m craving the beach. But not just any beach. Specifically a beach with beautiful cliffs, crystal clear ice-cold water, and vibrant green algae. I don’t live near one of those so I will draw it instead 🌊

Lighting doesn’t have to be so complicated. If you memorize basic lighting, you can use that as a starting point for a bunch of different styles! Join the lazy club and use shortcuts like I do 😌 I have a video that explains everything ~ find it here: www.patreon.com/loish/posts/...

Wrinkles and textured skin are beautiful, vibrant, and full of life. Folds and loose skin have beautiful shapes and volumes. If you view aged skin through the eyes of an artist, you gain a deep appreciation of its beauty 🖤

Listen, I’m still afraid of inks because they’re so permanent. But I’m trying to embrace them more and be a bit bolder with them. Baby steps!

a question for those of you in the game industry: you you guys find that there's ageism in the industry - basically that older people have a harder time finding work as an artist? any helpful insights / experiences on that?

Anyone remember the Christian Reese Lassen artwork on folders and trapper keepers? I had them in middle school, that art was next level.

90% of commissions I’ve drawn were about capturing existing people in a stylized way. I've also made a lot of fan art! It can be hard to get the likeness right, though. How do you balance stylization with accuracy? I made a whole video about it ~ find it here: www.patreon.com/posts/tutori...

I’ve been trying to figure out how I can translate my soft digital style into a risograph by separating all the color channels. I have not printed them yet, so I have no idea if they’ll work! I still need to pick the final colors! Which color combo do you like most?

I’m a character artist. I’m used to painting skin and hair and clothes... soft textures, basically. I found out the hard way that this approach does not work for rocks. Unless you want them to look like weirdly shiny flesh blobs instead 🤔

Remember when it was winter? It feels like a million years ago now. We had a lot of snow here in the Netherlands which was a rare experience. Here’s some paintings inspired by that special time ❄️ Done in Procreate!

Fabric folds are so hard. At least for me. The more detail I add the more they start to look like frosting on a cake. Crispness does not come naturally to me. But I try!!

Continuing my colored pencil adventures. The most satisfying part is adding the bright yellow. The glow it gives 🤌

Why is it so hard to find good pose reference to convey tension? Good thing I've got my own extensive experience to draw from 🥲

After lying around untouched for over 20 years, I finally tried out my ancient set of colored pencils. And now I’m wondering why I didn’t use them for so long - I love drawing with these!

As a person with acne, this helps my self-image: studying the faces of people who have it, and realizing they are still beautiful even though their skin has imperfections.

Every year, we do a secret santa event in my discord server. This year, I was asked to draw a Christmas ghost for Frederik Gheysen, one of my long time patrons ❄️
