I’m reading “Fantasticland” by #MikeBockoven & it’s a dark read. Not a Halloween book but bloody disaster at an amusement park. A heads on pikes kinda thing. I might have a take a break though. This is my fourth reading adventure today, none of them happy smiley reads.

Nose today has Pine & Juniper Berry which isn’t that hard. I think this essential oils box had other woods but not now. I’ll have to spend some time with it. What do “trees” smell like exactly? Can you get it from being a note in a scent mix? And is this the kinda thing they do at Grasse?

You realize the recent dirth of grocery store eggs was due to a mass case of bird flu that killed entire flocks? Please reevaluate your diets. If your body doesn’t require it (which is chicken + eggs) let them live in peace.

You may not have realized that for years the authorities around the globe have been protecting the chicken, goose, & duck meat industries, the egg industry, & the down industry - which have been breeding grounds for bird flu - rather than call time on farming birds for food & feathers #vegan

“(A)study from the University of Iowa published in Psychological Science…I (R)esearchers found that when white test subjects were primed with photos of five-year-old black boys, they were far more likely to mistake objects such as toys for guns – or even to claim to see guns when there were none.”

How do we heal this discrepancy? I do not know. I would say how the media presents BPOC makes a huge difference. You can start there. WHO you listen to and WHO you follow matters greatly Make effort to follow less-privileged groups—race, ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation, ability.

My noice that ain’t so noice. Miracle Amber, Floral Top notes: Lychee, freesia I got immediate citrus, which lychee is not but I’m not that knowledgeable; it’s a soapberry. Also got a hint of warmth. Base note is amber though, maybe? /1

Solar Berries, Fruity Top notes: Lemon, Sweet Orange Extremely sweet, knock you over the head sweet. I thought maybe citrus but way sweeter. I kinda got this one. Middle notes are Rose and Berries, Base note is musk. I wouldn’t wear this as a perfume. You’d attract bees or something. 🤷‍♀️

My snout. Love of Water Top notes: Reed, mint, lilac, mandarin, pink pepper Immedite FLOWER. This is likely that top note lilac which is the beautiful scent of my youth. I also do get Aquatic now, which the scent is labeled. Middle note is water lily which is likely where that’s coming in /

Life Serenity Top notes: Grapefruit, quince All I got was woody, which this is not. What the heck does a quince smell like anyway. Middle: Jasmine, hyacinth Base: Iris, white musk I am getting the grapefruit now I know it’s here. Scent is labeled Fruity floral Bzzzz…you lose, Traci! /

This is the “Mississippi Burning” case.

icookfood2023.bsky.social@icookfood2023.bsky.social

James Chaney, Andrew Goodman, and Michael Schwerner were murdered on June 21, 1964, by members of the White Knights of the Ku Klux Klan because of their civil rights activism, specifically their work registering Black citizens to vote in Mississippi. There will always be a #BlackandJewishAlliance

This was likely never answered for. And YES he was a Republican. This was prior to the push for civil rights & “the Southern strategy”.

On this day in 1870, a Black politician named Wade Perrin was assassinated by a white mob one day after he was re-elected to the South Carolina House of Representatives.

My nose don’t know. Tobacco Vanilla: Top notes: Tobacco, spices I got vanilla, maybe cinnamon. I’d label this a gourmand which it is not. Manufacuter has as “Oriental”. Middle note is vanilla which I got. No cinnamon unless that count as “spices.” Basenotes are dried fruits & woodsy notes /

GRASSE & beauty school. LaJames it would have been for me. Technically possible but too fckn expensive. Maybe still possible but probably not to be achieved. So many things I’ve wanted & either never possibility or never probable. Are you ready? An early dream of mine as to be a makeup artist.

That and FIDM. Fashion school. This makes me so sad. I was once told with total sincerity I wasn’t pretty enough to study cosmetology. Which I guess I’m not…though the woman tried to re-spin that into I was too smart to study cosmetology. I’m in my XX years; all I feel is profound failure. /end

Citrus Green Nexus Top notes: Lemon, green leaves, bergamont, cardamom, papaya All I got & immediately was aquatic then citrus. This is labeled “Citrus”. Where’s the aquatic coming from? Nothing in either middle or base notes. /2

Is anyone actually following these posts? Likely not. I’ve always been a scent hound, had no idea one could study to be a perfumer. It would have seemed way out of my ability to study at Grasse…which it still is. But I know a few that have graduated from there. My unaccomplished dreams…/1

My uneducated nose: Paris Nocturne Top notes: Strawberry, raspberry, pear, orange, tangerine, bergamont, watermelon, ketone All I got was “herbal”. Labeled Chypre, so citrus to moss. Have to admit just not a fragrance I’m familiar with. The scents basenotes are cedar & oakmoss. My “herbal” - 1

Nectar Water Top notes: Ginger & rose My nose quivered. Kept thinking “woody” and “beautiful”’ Basenotes here are Osmanthus which is indeed one of the most delightful things you’ll ever smell. I had a few of the plants but killed them like I always do. To replace? Dunno. - 2

Isn’t this lovely? The painter was known for portraying scenes of the sun, how it wove the light, how it shown so boldly. He was Dutch, had a very short career. He’s still largely forgotten. Sunlight Through the Trees (Fontainebleau) Oil on canvas • 57 × 57.5 cm Valdemar Schønheyder Møller 1899

I don’t have a problem with responsible gun owners, those being who keep them under lock along with having bullets locked in seperate location. Those that have ZERO access to children & anyone else who’s not a trained & authorized gun user. /1

I’m not comfortable with average citizens having an at-home arsenal with children having any access whatsoever to at-home arsenals. Guns aren’t birthday & Christmas gifts. Let me ask this: What is the purpose of firearms? It’s shooting & killing other living things. Deal with your damage. /3

If you don’t feel that’s safe enough for you maybe you should flee Yemen & Somalia. I would be more understanding if you are a battered spouse or have stalkers. For you have a loaded gun gun available in person. I’m not comfortable with average citizens having at-home arsenals. /2

Republican politicians are *obsessed* with schoolchildren coming home a different gender because of pro-trans teachers, WHICH NEVER HAPPENS. But they are completely indifferent to schoolchildren not coming home *at all* because of guns, WHICH HAPPENS ALL THE TIME!

This is so terrible. We have a fly problem but I don’t want to spray poison or set up an indoor strip or shock box. So I’m thinking adopt a veiled chameleon though more likely a purchase. They are no vegetarians. I’d have to get crickets or dúbia roaches to feed. Not wanting that either. /1
