Nicolas Rapold's conversation with Robert Greene is the You Can See Me discourse you're looking for. Near the end Greene compares it with Twin Peaks: Fielder/Cooper, the naive lovelorn investigator, attempting to save Liz/Laura, the unknowable beauty. Or maybe all movies are just remakes of Vertigo.

Like everyone else, I’m struggling a bit in thinking through YCSE. CLOSE-UP is definitely a useful precedent.

Remarkable that YOU CAN SEE EVERYTHING is filling large commercial theatres here in Toronto. It's entertaining, certainly. As far as formally advancing the art of documentary, though, I'm not sure this goes significantly beyond Abbas Kiarostami's 1990 formal hybrid feature CLOSE-UP. ... /1

My favorite of my interviews.

Middle-aged white guy from Tennessee here. Over the last week, my Facebook feed has been overrun with paid promotions of Republican leaders and causes. Like, it's a total night and day difference. I'm taking this as anecdotal evidence that they're burning through remaining funds before the midterms.

Tump. My wife from southern Alabama uses this to mean something between knock and dump. The cat tumped over the water bowl. That kind of thing.

A couple years ago I instituted an aggressive block/mute policy to rid my social media experience of assholes. Today Shane Gillis broke containment. That guy sucks.

Rotten Tomatoes should be an invaluable archive of late-20th and 21st-century popular film criticism. Instead, it's my go-to example of how ephemeral digital culture is. I'm researching a film that got a pretty wide release in 1997 and 15 of the 20 links are broken. Many of the sites are gone.

Remarkable how consistently the Trump administration has adopted the aesthetics of mass shooters, from their schizophrenic social media aesthetic to livestreamed executions to masked men with long guns roaming our streets with impunity. Nihilist violent extremism as statecraft

Everyone should watch the first season of Killing Eve, which, for eight episodes, teases out incredible "will they, won't they" sexual tension that had zero chance of being sustainable over four seasons.

What TV show got so bad it effectively destroyed your appreciation for the show when it was was good?

This is your periodic reminder that Lindsey Graham wasted his cruel, pathetic life in pursuit of power and then all of sudden fell over dead and was forgotten.

Yesterday I drove my kids over to Nashville to see UNDERTALE: The Determination Symphony, and I assure you the Ryman has never seen a more wholesome, neurodiverse audience in its long and storied history.
