it would be nice if more people had some concept of respecting boundaries regarding sex, and also possessed the ability to understand that discussing consent is not "steamroll the other person while ignoring their clearly stated limits until they either block you or give in"

i feel that i've perhaps made some unfortunate choices when it comes to referring to the particular incision (i have four total) through which they dragged my extremely inflamed gallbladder. i have nerve damage there and it's swollen and tender. "my hole is really sore today," i said.

gallbladder surgery recovery has been a little rough. the glue on the main incision mysteriously disappeared very fast and the incision has been leaking (but isn't infected, at least) and it all hurts worse than any other surgery of mine except the mastectomy.

I can't seem to feel interested in FNV. I've tried playing it twice, plus tried Let's Plays and streams. Elden Ring also left me cold. Everyone praised the characters and the story so much, but it didn't work for me.

No hate, no dogpiling, just curious. For me, it's Skyrim. Don't know why, considering it should be exactly my kind of game, but it just didn't click for me.

this week, i win the falling asleep without my cpap on award (twice and then i took it off once in my sleep which i never do) for the first time since i got the damn thing almost ten years ago. i was halfway losing my voice yesterday (ideal when you do a voice rp) from snoring messing up my throat.

even if you are able bodied, i strongly recommend a shower stool or chair to everyone. it's extremely nice to just sit the fuck down sometimes after a long day, or when you need to contemplate your life choices, or if you want to deep condition your hair, etc. we, the disabled, do not gatekeep them.

then if you hurt yourself or you have a surgery, you're already prepared without having to figure it out in a hurry and possibly hurting yourself. if you get headaches, if just you want to shower after coming home tipsy from the bar, whatever: sit down. it's great.

Stop putting off getting that accessibility device. Need a cane? Get it. Showering too hard? Buy a chair. Grabby sticks are great, you should get one. Doesn't matter if you can muddle through without it, if it will make your life better, get it.

As a veteran of two eclipses, the first of which turned me into a lifelong eclipse chaser, my advice is to put your phone down and enjoy the freaky experience. The pros will get great photos and you only have a minute or so to experience totality.

A rare total solar eclipse is set to sweep over parts of Europe next week, drawing millions of enthusiasts. Here's how to use your smartphone to capture it.

In 1986, contracting HIV meant you were going to die, usually slowly, painfully, and alone. Now it's a chronic illness like hypertension. In 1986, gay and lesbian couples couldn't have their relationships legally recognized and had to adopt elaborate legal workarounds.

re: mamdani's "suspiciously green" bananas - are we sure the newspaper did not simply misidentify some plantains as bananas causing every racist white conservative to have a mental breakdown? for example, a display of plantains.

counting the days until my gallbladder goes away. i try not to be upset that they've been making me wait since the beginning of may but sometimes it hurts so much (even when i eat nothing all day) that i can't think clearly or sleep, and i feel like it simply is not significant to my doctors at all.

new meds have been helping a lot but i think we might need to do something in addition for times when something triggers me. i had a very difficult night because i got stuck in traumatic memories, which hasn't really happened like this in a while and i'm not sure why it did last night.

This is how we live on earth, a flock of sparrows. The darkness, a magician, finds quarters behind our ears. We don’t know what life is, who makes it, the reality is thick with longing. We put it up to our lips and drink. ~ Ilya Kaminsky, ‘Dancing in Odessa’ (2004) #Painting by Miyake Wakō.

It is true, if you’re benefitting from Disabled Adult Child benefits, you will lose them if you get married and your spouse has income. I guess the government just assumes they’ll become your caretaker, which adds all sorts of weird dynamics to what is presumably a romantic relationship.

Happy 36th anniversary of the passing of the Americans with Disabilities Act. To this day, disabled people still can't get married, and our rights are actively being challenged over and over. True disability inclusion happens when we're equals to our able-bodied peers.

is there an actual reason why dialogue in movies is at 0.5% volume and the sound effects and music are at 5000% volume? i have an ungodly migraine from the latter, and barely heard a single word the characters said.

i'll say three things for the new meds, despite the headache: 1. i have kept the dishes done 2. i've been drinking tea every day again (tea has been a hobby for 23 years but has been neglected for a while) 3. i took pictures outside the other day for the first time in years.

i also signed us up for a little papermaking class on my birthday because i'd like to go to more of the free art events at the library, and i managed to make myself talk out loud twice to strangers in a roleplay before i got too anxious.

sucks that you can go to therapy, do the work, take the pills, touch grass, practice a hobby, pet a cat, etc, and still spend an entire day so miserable that you can't get out of bed. there's only so much mental scaffolding i can build out of toothpicks as a trans person in this godforsaken country.

i wish more people had the capacity to recognise and honour real art, real music, real human effort, etc, even when it is not to their specific taste. the song i'm listening to is not my thing, but everyone who made it worked very hard on it and that is easy to see for me and respect.

children's movies that talked about grief and loss were the only way i could try to understand my own feelings about my grandfather's sudden death when i was seven because my family wouldn't talk about it, nor let me talk about it or go to the funeral. films like these are VITALLY IMPORTANT.

Kasey Gifford@kaseygifford.bsky.social

Kids need/deserve traumatic films. Films that show death or lasting consequences that aren't resolved almost instantly. Fear, anger, grief and frustration should be part of kids movies. Kids arent stupid, they feel big emotions just like adults, they deserve to see those experiences reflected back.

the drivers metaphor is a pretty good one. my brain felt like the sound had been broken since the puberty update and instead of music, all i could hear was the buzzing whine of feedback. it improved so fast after i started hrt.

early on in my transition before there were any noticable changes from HRT, i explained to one of my gamer friends that being on estrogen felt like getting the right drivers installed on a gaming PC. it actually made him understand super well and he said it was a good metaphor

wrote an email last night where i accidentally repeated the word tomorrow enough times to justify being forcibly renamed to annie, and only noticed it now, in the quoted text of their reply. whoops.
