Well, that's the last after-work walk I'll do before sunset this year, with the clocks going back at the weekend. I don't mind winter that much, but I do miss walking in daylight.

FYI this was just a one-off because I thought my WordPress plugin couldn't do half-stars to match the fact that GoodReads now offers that. But I'd misinterpreted the WP plugin so have reverted the below to 4.5/5 and will continue to use a rating out of 5 going forward, but with half-stars as well.

Sounds simple, doesn't it? Except the reason they're always white is because it has been common practice to require that in the planning permission system so they show up less against the sky.... Hence deliberately being less visible to birds.

I've spent today wondering which one of Burnham's advisors chose to shaft him over the 'no Irish referendum' thing. Not only is it legally beyond his competence - it's just a stupid remark to have made. All he had to do was keep his head down and his mouth shut. There were plenty of distractions.

That time we nearly killed a king... King Olaf V of Norway made a state visit to Scotland in October 1962, and, after all the official hoopla in Edinburgh, he headed for Glasgow.
