RIP Walter Koenig :( May he travel the cosmos forever <3

George Takei@georgetakei.bsky.social

My heart is heavy. Walter Koenig, our Ensign Pavel Chekov, passed away early today. Walter and I met on the bridge of the Enterprise in the 1960s, and we stayed friends for nearly six decades. When Brad and I married in 2008, Walter stood beside us as our best man.

There is a word in Hindi for people like Vivek Ramaswamy. That word is बहनचोद.

Rocket League, about an hour ago... Teammate: "Tm8, uninstall" (he thinks I'm bad) Me: "Nah, think I'll pass, thanks. Enjoy your false sense of superiority, though ;)" Teammate: "are you a liberal by chance" Me: "Why? Because I sound smarter than you?" Also me: *Scores Goal* Teammate: *leaves*

I'm sure Mussolini's Olive Garden would go over smashingly...

Look, “like Saddam Hussein designed a Cheesecake Factory” is a banger of a line, but now I’m thinking about what restaurant chains other famous garish dictators would design. Gaddafi’s Golden Corral? Kim Jong Un’s Sizzler? WE NEED TO KNOW

While I'm a massive LotR fan, I decided to avoid "The Rings of Power." I'm glad I did. The moment I found out they'd introduced what was supposed to be an Istari to the series, my choice was validated. The show takes place in the Second Age. The Istari don't arrive until the Third Age.

At some point, creative liberty becomes a fucking joke, and this was most definitely it for me with this series. You're shoe-horning in a character who's completely anachronistic, just to get eyeballs on the series. There are two known Maiar in Middle-earth at this time: Sauron and Durin's Bane.

Gandalf et. al. don't arrive in Lindon until 1000 years into the Third Age. So... Dafuq is Gandalf doing in Eregion, a land long-since devoid of Elvish dominion before the Istari were ever sent from Aman? In all honesty, and with all respect, this ain't Hitchhiker's Guide...

All the Dementia, but yeah. This is kind of hard to ignore, especially when he's waxing all crazy like that about someone from this ridiculous state...

So... Turns out that MVave have issued their own firmware update, v16. It adds quite a bit, but most notably, it jacks up the polyphony from 12 voices to a whopping 20! Let's see the big kids do that with a tiny little patch... This is a wild time to be a beginner synth nerd...

I got my OG FM-1 (black) just as the Firmwarepocalypse started. I got my SMK-37 (black keys) before it experienced its own firmware shenanigans. The Donner is just another SMK rebranded; It and the grey FM-1 arrived yesterday. The revolution is here, and for under $450 @eliotetc.bsky.social

Truly deserved. Well done, my friend! If you're not watching @kingfanman.bsky.social, you probably should! REAL content from a REAL creator <3

I like how YouTube still sends me "creator emails" despite the fact that I haven't created anything specifically for the platform ever since they demonetized me (along with every other sub-1K channel) in 2018. Not that I was getting paid much, but still...

The worst thing about the last election cycle was political pages overusing "BREAKING NEWS" and it's many, many variants, usually for something that just amounted to a celebrity opinion. This election cycle, it's "read that again." Please: Stop using that in Every. Single. Post.

🎶I'd like to teach the world to use... A microphone properly...🎶 Seriously. The way (singular) a lot of people THINK microphones work and the ways (multiple) they ACTUALLY work are vastly different things. And YouTubers: Nobody needs to see what mic you bought. Stand or clip it properly.

The fun never stops: Not long after I get the expected "Your Starrykey 37 has shipped" notification, I got a second one: "Hey, your other FM-1 will be there tomorrow, too!" Nice. The plan for right now is to leave the SK-37 on the default firmware and map it to the other three units...

LPTV Live!@lptv.badwarden.com

Update. I bought it now. This will effectively give me four FM-1 units, two with keys/pads...

Kinda wild watching this all unfold, having started this whole adventure just before the Firmwarepocalypse. Currently, my finger is hovering over "Buy It FUCKING NOW" on a Donner Starrykey 37 - which is just the SMK-37 with different branding, and thus, effectively another FM-1 in a Keyboard...

Glancing around Amazon, and it seems the FM-1 is becoming a little harder to find in short order. Glad I ordered my second unit when I did, it's been rather the wait already. Foresight, though, has has given me a sort of FM-1+ in the form of an SMK-37...

Podcast Host: "If you could have these edited in three weeks, that'd be great, thank you!" Me, 36 Hours After Recording Wraps: "Yeah, I've got two episodes in the can, the other three will be done by Wednesday, I just need your titles, credits, etc." Behold: The power of working from home, baked.

Part of me gets using hand gestures to control certain automated functions in modern PTZ cameras. But practical me watches humans be the animated creatures they are, constantly gesturing and completely wiping out an hour of setup by activating undesired automated functions. AI now disabled. Sheesh.

This sounds truly horrifying, and makes me kinda glad I never really "made it" as a content creator. The level of anonymity we have with Green Jello - the ability to slip back into obscurity with zero effort after a show - really is a blessing...

Publisher often cited for treating a creator poorly now says creators will triumph over AI. Kojima superstans' eyes are bleeding after reading this.

Yeah, Salem is a pretty chill town, everyone there that I met was super nice. I wish I could get back there more often. Outer Space Pizza Company is my jam...

We've hit the line: the FM-1 is starting to come up as "Currently Unavailable" from some sellers, and there are signs of price increases dotting the landscape. My second unit is still awaiting shipment - it should be here before my birthday. Getting any more, though? Might be even more of a wait...

My folks always thought I was bad with money. Turns out I was just bad at making money at the time. When I started making money, I found out that I was pretty good with it. I've got six months' rent in the bank, and I've turned a full Verizon phone into pre-paid wireless with this one neat trick...

And that neat trick is having a bank account devoted solely to paying my phone bill. Every so often, I shove some money into that account and consider it spent. I've got it paid in advance for the next 11 months, at least. It turns out that I'm actually good with money, once I have some coming in.

And now we're up to v101 on the SMK _and_ the FM-1. What a difference less than a day makes. Cue Ferris Bueller...

LPTV Live!@lptv.badwarden.com

Holy shit... BaudGirl v99 Beta is running on my SMK o.O The revolution continues...

The big kids don't move THIS fast... In just under a month, the FM-1 and its siblings have gone from budget curiosity to covering nearly the entire spectrum of synth possibilities. I chose an amazing time to jump into the quagmire - just as it loosened up into a free-flowing river...

Oh shit! BaudGirl firmware coming to the SMK-37 Pro! Apparently I'm not the only one who's wondered "Hey, these things are fundamentally the same, I wonder if this could be ported..." It apparently can! Installer is wonky right now, but I has the faith!

And now we've achieved launch. Bad Gear just dropped an FM-1 video post-Firmwarepocalypse! The surprise synth of the summer just might be the first major step to a revolution in the space. Pilz ordered a second one - And so did I... youtu.be/cM1ubk7JQ3E

So, the FM-1, yeah? Turns out this thing is rather infinitely hackable - Just waiting for someone to port DOOM to it, if I'm being honest... But in the interest of being honest, there's so much custom firmware out there for these things that I've gone and ordered a second one... #Synth #Nerd

Just discovered yesterday that Stressmonster started releasing videos again not long ago. That was always the most disappointing part of that whole mess: Stress was one of my very favorite Hermits. And that whole thing? Yeah, that wasn't exactly endearing. Sorry, Nat. Magic's gone. Good luck tho.

I began participating in #Whamageddon all the way back in 2017. I have yet to visit the storied halls of #Whamhalla. This marks my 10th year - if I can go all 10 of my first years unWhammed, I will consider that ultimate victory...

There's a special place in hell for people like Jim Bakker. I hope to be able to work there someday... Rot in Hell, Jim Bakker. Con artist scum...

Hoodlum 🇺🇸@nothoodlum.bsky.social

Jim Bakker, the TV preacher brought down by sex and financial scandals, has died at 86. He and his then-wife, Tammy Faye Bakker, built a televangelism empire that ended in a spectacular collapse of greed, scandal, and excess.

The so-called "Professor of Rock" answers the one question nobody ever asked: "What does it actually feel like to be talked down to about music by someone who looks like they drowned in the second wave of Ska?"

Officially wading into Synth Nerd waters with my very first synthesizer: The MVave FM1. Am I insane for going with FM for my first synthesizer? Probably, but it'll be fun, yeah? At $85, it's an easy buy... Relevant to the interests of @xisumavoid.com!

Chuck Varga was a creative genius. He was also a super nice guy and was an absolute blast to hang out with. Thank you, Chuck, for giving outsider art the kick in the ass it needed. May the Sexecutioner forever travel the cosmos, bringing art and chaos wherever he may go... RIP Chuck Varga of GWAR

In contrast, this same post attracted so many randos on Facebook... Just goes to show - if there's no algorithm, exposure is WAY more organic. BlueSky, I <3 you too...
