Social scientists have lent our names to calls for electoral system change and rule of law, because of the findings of our disciplines. We should do the same for anti-trans ads, which have dubious benefit and demonstrable harm. My latest at GP/BP goodpoliticsbadpolitics.substack.com/p/social-sci...

goodpoliticsbadpolitics.substack.comAnti-trans campaign ads are a bad strategy. Social scientists should say so.If we care about democracy, we should not tolerate this

Bloody cowards. This has to stop and *now*. Out with the people doing this, advising this, thinking this is okay. Out out out.

Wintersong@wintersong.bsky.social

The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC - @electdemocrats.bsky.social) is running anti-trans ads now, so I don't know how you can say the party itself isn't embracing transphobia. There are still some good Dems out there, but transphobia is apparently a party value.

Transportation Committee votes on amendments tomorrow at 9:30AM! Come make your voice heard!

Ryan Packer@typewriteralley.bsky.social

NEW: Alexis Mercedes Rinck has proposed an amendment to Rob Saka's SAFER Streets Act that would give the City Traffic Engineer explicit authority to implement street changes in historic districts (Pioneer Square, Pike Place) without getting the approval of the local boards.

I'd be a lot more sick of Julia's (terrific) book if it didn't keep being immediately relevant to our current politics. Which is only going to get more so if/when Dems run the House and have to deal with impeachment.

You should pre-order this book from real experts on building more trustworthy systems.

Did I mention that we've been writing a book? Fundamentally, security, privacy, trust&safety, AI safety -- all the fields aimed at dealing with dealing with how technical systems hurt people and how to avoid it -- share a foundation. We cover how to think and achieve *truly* effective practice. 1/

If only someone could figure out how to make milk safe to drink! It'd be such a big deal the process would be named after them.

Kyle Pfannenstiel@pfannyyy.bsky.social

Idaho health officials are investigating how nearly 60 people got sick after drinking raw milk in the past two weeks. The Idaho Department of Health and Welfare says they didn't name two dairies potentially linked to the outbreak “because this is a potential risk for any raw milk producer.”

ICYMI and would rather read about Republicans than Democrats today or are all caught up on your 2024 report takes :)

Julia Azari@juliaazari.bsky.social

So I didn't know the Dems were gonna release their report and I wrote about Republicans instead this week goodpoliticsbadpolitics.substack.com/p/how-will-t...

Certainly. But remember: It. Doesn't. Work. He does this crap, and he just gets more and more unpopular. He was unpopular first-term during good times, and he's unpopular now. Of course people should call him out on it, but he hasn't discovered some secret formula for anything.

Julian Sanchez@normative.bsky.social

Part of Trump’s general pattern of: Create a completely self-inflicted catastrophe; eventually retreat; declare victory & pat self on the back for partially “solving” the problem you caused.

Too many times, we have seen gun violence inflict immense heartbreak and loss in Minnesota. It’s time for us to come together to take real, actionable steps toward common sense gun laws.

NEW: There are 2,400+ elections for DA & sheriff this year. These matter hugely to criminal justice & policing—including: *these are often officials who decide ICE collaboration.* So I took a dive into these 2,400+ races to identify early hotspots and battlegrounds. Read, & check out our maps:

Everything Jamelle says. Plus: The problem with doomer expectations of "canceling" elections (other than it's annoying) is there are real things Trump/GOP might do to attempt to impede fully free & fair elections and doomerism doesn't go well with preparing to counter and resist those real dangers.

jamelle@jamellebouie.net

the question to ask about this is, okay, he wants to cancel the midterms. how does he get the VA state board of elections to cancel the midterms? how does he get the georgia board of elections to do it? how does he convince republican house members to quit their jobs and give up their paychecks?
