Just a reminder that there is no good data to support these uses in K12, we are just testing it live all on kids who won’t ever be these ages again and can’t get them back if we fuck it up.
"AI can draft an essay for you, especially if you give it a high quality prompt." Really? This is what MIT thinks high schoolers should learn? MIT's "Day of AI" dayofai.org provides materials for K-12 teachers and claims to have reached over 5,000,000 students to date. 1/2

Not suspiciously at all! The "learning loss" argument was only ever a bad-faith wedge to get someone else (teachers, daycare workers, etc.) to take care of their kids so they wouldn't have to!! They do not give one single fuck about the genuine well-being of children, never have never will!!!
The learning loss / child experimentation crowd suspiciously quiet

Between this & the $95bn circularly-financed stock offering from Meta, you know the money has to be bad. Like they are desperate for cash. Also I will be reading this prospectus with so much hatred in my heart.

thanks to hank green and the like for so eagerly derailing that line of argumentation and giving ammo to the boosters
Google was really trying to hide its water use figures, to the degree that it got the council to try to keep its water use figures secret. The community finally got the actual numbers and found out Google was using 29 percent of the water in the community. www.wired.com/story/what-t...

that part. this is why we need to teach critical thinking not “how to use ai”
the example of uber is instructive. it was pretty incredible when the money cannon was firing. now that it's expensive we're stuck with an immiseration engine for workers who depend on it, that sabotages public transport and pours waterfalls of money into anti labor legislation
