Dawn of the Orcs is back on Backerkit for 10 days, as part of the Ennies Emporium! Play wizards and mad scientists. Build your own orcs. It's a GMless game with just the right mix of strategy and storytelling that everyone who plays it has a good time. www.backerkit.com/c/projects/l...

If you are picking a name for your independent RPG publishing company, you can name it after corvids or after rats. Those are the only two options. I don't make the rules.

I do like a good Warren Zevon reference.

Excellent stuff from Chaosium!

Update on the use of AI text in Chaosium Community Content programs @drivethrurpg.com. TL/DR: Don't use it in our programs. AI is not art. It is theft from you and every writer who has gone before you, repackaged dishonestly and shamelessly as original. www.chaosium.com/blogupdate-o...

I need to do another print run of Dawn of the Orcs. Looking for any mid-size distributors or webstores who would be interested in a bulk order. In the past I've worked with IPR, Peregrine Coast, Tabletop Bookshelf, and Pit ov Doom.

Prison Book Program now has enough storage space for as many RPG books as people want to donate. Or any of the other frequently requested books, but RPG books are often requested, rarely donated, and most of the people I know here are RPG folks. prisonbookprogram.org/donate-books/

The fall 2026 Designed in the DMV catalog features 80+ games made by folks in the DC-MD-VA region. We give these out to all the FLGSs in our region to encourage players to #ShopLocal. Thank you @evilhat.bsky.social (based in MD!) for making it possible! youtube.com/shorts/2pAxi...

Special challenge for RPG experts: did anyone ever make a condensed version of the 3.5/PF1e ruleset? Something around 40 pages or less. Something that does for 3.5 what the Black Hack does for OD&D.

One of the big revelations of my life was just how much of it has been illustrated by @michaelwhelan.bsky.social. The Anne McCaffrey books and Asimov books I read in my grandmother's house, the Lovecraft I read as a teen, the metal albums I listen to today. They all had the same cover artist.

It's a weird feeling, because I thought of these as different periods in my life. I didn't realize just how many of the book and album covers were by the same person until I stumbled on Whelan's website. It's wild that one person can define so much of the look of the fantastic and wonderful.

Finding new location and character names for a grimdark setting is hard. Goetic demons, Biblical nasties, and Norse/Germanic myth names have already been done so many times.

all set up for tomorrow! look at all these artisanal, locally-crafted, independently-designed analog games!

Catch me at #RisuCon this Saturday! I'll be slinging a bunch of cool indie ttrpg's all made by local designers! Any locals should come swing by and say hi!

I'm thinking of doing something at Everwinter game convention in downtown Boston this year. Anyone have experience tabling or running games tere?

Nic has always been incredibly helpful when I'm working with IPR. He's a pillar of RPG publishing.

Sylvan Lawrence Is Long Hauled Again@lonelamplighter.bsky.social

Not sure who here heard already, but Nic from IPR was in a really bad car crash two weeks ago, and his car is completely totaled. Anything you can give would be immensely appreciated, and even if you can't, please please please spread the word on this! www.gofundme.com/f/support-ni...

Hey, this is the third project I worked with Plasmophage on! She's been great to collaborate with.

plasmophage@plasmophage.bsky.social

I’m very happy with how this project came out! Contact me here or at plasmophage@gmail.com with any inquiries. I’m going to be posting more in-depth BTS stuff here soon. #ttrpg #layout #illustration #fantasy #indie

There's also a related topic to be had here: how dangerous it is to do crowdfunding at the point where you don't have the text (text; not artwork, layout, other pieces of finishing) finalized including editing. Evil Hat has been jokingly calling our crowdfunds "kickfinishers" for years for a reason.

www.rascal.news/finally-a-he... I welcome any effort to pull back from the high volume all the time infospace around TTRPG crowdfunds. This echoes some of the reasons why I avoid having Evil Hat participate in themed months and whatnot. That’s great for the vendors, not so great for the publishers.

Another interesting post from the Indonesian TTRPG Blogwagon! Magic as spirit-bargaining is common in traditions around the world. I suspect magic-as-craft is an Enlightenment thing or later. Stormbringer (1981) has an early spirit-bargaining magic system and Shadowrun might be the most famous.

Afraid of Encounters (He/Him)@isaacisafraid.bsky.social

Another entry for the Indonesian TTRPG Blogwagon from me. I suuuuuuuuuuck at designing mechanics and procedures, but I'm trying anyway. Here's a magic system based on Indonesian occult practice where you negotiate it instead of casting it yourself! afraidofencounters.bearblog.dev/indonesian-t...

I was disappointed to find out that TTRPG wiki uses AI to write their game descriptions. I've asked them to remove my games and delete their posts.

This post is unavailable.

Just finished watching Widow's Bay. This show is the opposite of everything you normally think of when you hear horror comedy. It uses the comedy of mundane life to make us attached to the characters, so their perils and dilemmas feel more true. There's so much care in the acting and cinematography.

This is a great philosophy for playing RPGs.

barenuckelavee.bsky.social@barenuckelavee.bsky.social

I have a blog now and wrote about playing a bastardized version of OD&D in prison and how the DIY spirit of the OSR is most alive when you don't buy anything at all barenuckelavee.bearblog.dev/no-one-can-t...

This was a really interesting read. It's about playgroups that use English for all IC talk and Indonesian for all OOC talk.

Roseline!@redforroseline.bsky.social

Here's my contribution! I talk about the Indonesian Language and it's role when we play TTRPGs!!! Please take a look!! redforroseline.nekoweb.org/blog/IndoBlo...

I think indie RPGs would be a great fit here! Smaller, lighter books are easier to mail. One thing if you're a publisher: please don't send more than 5-10 copies of the same title right now, since storage space is limited and variety is important (but they hope to have more space by next year).

Does anyone remember the name of te metal song that used bits from Cthulhu's 2nd edition D&D statblock as lyrics? It was intended to be parody, I remember that.

Someone recommend me an interesting oneshot adventure to run at a game store event in a month or two. Any system. Just anything I haven't run before. Looking for variety.

Ran Cairn for the first time. At a con. Someone asked me if they could play their Githyanki necromancer. We homebrewed a new background in five minutes and got to adventuring. The Horrendous Hounds of Hendenburgh were victoriously laid to rest. It was a great time!

I love everything about this and want to see more like it. "The cost of paying an unlikely company of heroes to deal with the dragon is cheap when compared to hiring a competent group of specialists to deal with the aftermath."

Ben M | Periapt Games@periaptgames.bsky.social

Fantasy gaming meets environmentalism and bomb disposal! Ecoheroism is a free #TTRPG supplement exploring the idea that slaying a dragon doesn't make it safe. Each organ is magically hazardous and must be disposed of carefully to avoid environmental disaster. periapt-games.itch.io/ecoheroism

If I had a nickel every time I went to a free afternoon concert at the town park and some guy played the fiddle faster and more furiously than Yngie Malmsteen shredding I'd have two nickels, which isn't a lot but it's cool it happened twice.
