A long, long World Series drought will be ending this month. Cleveland: 78 years (1948) Milwaukee: 57 years (Never won) Tampa Bay: 28 years (Never won) All three are among MLB’s smallest markets too.

The Red Sox have heavily tapped their pitching pipeline, which at some point must produce some new arms to replace everyone who has been traded recently. Fortunately for Boston, one arm took a notable step forward in his first year of pro ball. www.bostonherald.com/2026/10/13/e...

bostonherald.comSkilled lefty emerges as Red Sox fast-rising pitching prospectOver the past year the Red Sox have traded away a haul of pitching prospects, but one recent draft pick has emerged as a potential impact arm.

The Red Sox announce that Caleb Durbin underwent a successful left fifth finger PIP joint reconstruction last week. The procedure was performed by Dr. Matthew Leibman at Newton-Wellesley Surgery Center in Wellesley.

Red Sox fans, what's on your mind? Doing a year-end mailbag for Sunday's Herald, if you have any burning questions or want to get anything off your chest, send your submissions my way.

With a lockout looming, the Red Sox have a lot of decisions to make. Will Sonny Gray come back? Who else is set to hit the market? How will the club handle its imminent roster crunch? All of that and more here. www.bostonherald.com/2026/10/04/m...

bostonherald.comMLB notes: With lockout looming, Red Sox face tough offseason decisionsFollowing a disappointing early postseason exit and with a lockout looming, the Red Sox have some tough decisions awaiting them this winter.

The Red Sox announce that Mickey Gasper has undergone a successful Distal Biceps tendon repair. The procedure was performed by Dr. Matthew Leibman at MassGeneral Brigham in Boston.

"I would have liked to have been trusted in that moment." Sonny Gray had only thrown 70 pitches when Chad Tracy gave him the hook with two outs in the fifth inning, and that decision didn't go over well with the veteran and some of his teammates. www.bostonherald.com/2026/10/01/r...

"I don't know what the future holds for me," Gray said. "I do know that I walked off that mound with my chest back and my chin up, and I can definitely be proud that I left it all out there until the ball was taken out of my hands."

Sonny Gray says he’s undecided about his future, but emphasizes that he still has a lot of baseball left in him if that’s the path he chooses. Also made it clear he wasn’t happy with being taken out as early as he was.

Garrett Crochet on how he feels: "Shitty. I feel healthy but I feel like shit, for our season to end the same way that it did last year against obviously what the media would probably would portray and a lot of the guys in this clubhouse would say is our biggest rival, it sucks."

Garrett Crochet gets Spencer Jones swinging but the Yankee reaches on a dropped third strike. He then steals second, takes third on the bad throw and scores on an RBI single by George Lombard Jr. Yankees lead 3-1.

Nate Eaton guns down the runner at the plate on Luis Garcia Jr.'s single to end the inning. Red Sox very fortunate to only be trailing 2-0 here. Only chance the Sox have now is to score, which has proven impossible so far in this series.

Chad Tracy goes to get Sonny Gray after allowing a single to Ben Rice. He walks off the mound to thunderous boos from the Yankee fans. Erik Miller is on with runners at the corners and two outs in the fifth.

Really nice double play turned at first there by Willson Contreras. That helps get Sonny Gray out of the inning after only 14 pitches, but the Red Sox need some runs now trailing 1-0.

Sonny Gray has been great so far. Two hits allowed through the first three innings, both harmless singles. He retired the first five batters he faced and has two strikeouts. It's still scoreless headed into the fourth inning.

That was wildly aggressive by Nate Eaton, but the throw to second isn't good and he makes it in safely. Red Sox have their first scoring chance in the third inning.

For the second straight day Adley Rutschman works a 10-pitch at bat his first time to the plate, but this time he strikes out after narrowly missing what would have at minimum been a double that landed just foul.

Curtis Mead had long been viewed as a longshot to return for the playoffs, but after a fruitful workout on Monday the trade deadline acquisition believed he might be able to contribute. Now, with Roman Anthony out, his number is being called. www.bostonherald.com/2026/09/30/r...

bostonherald.comRed Sox activate deadline acquisition as replacement for Roman AnthonyWith their season on the brink, the Red Sox activated one of their top trade deadline acquisitions as an injury replacement for Roman Anthony ahead of Game 2.

Roman Anthony says he hurt his hand fouling off a pitch during his first at bat. He knew then something was wrong but took a second at bat anyway just to make sure. Once he checked his swing again in that at bat he knew it was time to get it looked at.

Curtis Mead confirms he’s been activated for tonight. He took his first live BP on Monday but he feels confident in his ability to contribute.

This morning’s imaging “showed additional damage to some muscles in his wrist that weren’t there before.” “We’re trying to replace him, we have paperwork in on that but it’s enough there that we’re not going to have him.”

Chad Tracy says Roman Anthony has been sent home to have further imaging done on his hand. They’ve identified several new problem areas in addition to the original injury. He will miss the foreseeable future and the club is working on replacing him on the Wild Card roster.

Roman Anthony was driven back to Boston following last night’s game to get an MRI first thing this morning. He’s on his way back to New York now.

Roman Anthony did not speak to the media postgame about his injury. The Red Sox said he'd already left the ballpark by the time the clubhouse opened.
