Another useful thing - if you use Buttondown for your newsletter, did you know you can disable crawling by type? buttondown.com/blog/crawlin... covers how to disable (identified - so, it can't block bad actors) AI scrapers.

zero regrets. indescribably useful 🤣

Happy Banned Books Week AND Anti-Prime Day! We've spent this week fighting with Amazon, who blocked Issue 3... because a stylized illustration of a statue = porn, at least if you're a queer publication. The best way to support us is directly. Code ANTIPRIME gets you 15% off subscriptions this week.

start tugging on the dangling yarn of 'affordable access to art' vs 'artists' right to earn enough to live' and there's no stopping until you unravel the entire sweater of modern capitalism 🤷🏻‍♀️

great article & I've been meaning to watch two of these; now I'll be paying attention as a group

Promised a friend I'd post about my books more, so here goes! First up, my Nebula Award finalist book about a girl who's half star and half human and gets caught up in the politics of the starry court, STAR DAUGHTER! It's really good, and you should try it. www.harpercollins.com/products/sta...

THE UNSPOKEN NAME by AK Larkwood. gorgeously written adventure fantasy of an orc sacrifice turned warrior fighting free of the terrible wizard mentor who saved her, takes Tombs of Atuan & blossoms open at Planeswalker scale. doomed by its Feb '20 release 😭 dead planets! fighter/mage f/f! butch mc!!

Stopped by the local to pick up my Blacktail preorder the other day and was aghast that the bookseller (who is a specfic person!!) hadn't heard of Mount Char. Ugh!!! If 'Dark Cosmic Academia' was a genre that went 'squelch' and also played 3D chess with the time stream. I should read it again.

mountain's out! ...okay it's out if you're in an airplane 😂

trying to decide between a somewhat eclectic set of reading/research options to bring on my writing retreat is the hardest part of packing... because these are not all gonna fit in my baggage weight allowance... unless I wear the same clothes all week... 🤔🤔📚🪨😵

sometimes emptying the library in preparation for a facelift forces one to confront one's literary foundations. in this case in the format of the Leaning Tower of McCaffrey 🤔

NEW VIDEO ALERT! Today on Bar Cart Bookshelf we're talking about BODIES OF MAGIC by Freya Marske. A medical magical mystery that draws you into the travails of young healers on the cusp of their careers. Queer, smart, enthralling fantasy. Our drink is the Lantern Night, frosty and refreshing!

relocating my library temporarily & it is a constant exercise in 'but what if instead of writing Book Two I reread Seeing Like a State?' every time I move an old beloved 🫣 and that's just with the nonfics...

Make a band edible Fall Out Boyardee

okay music-loving bsky - what's your peak, most overwrought, most dramatic 'loyal knight laying down their life for their liege' Kingly song? The one that feels practically Arthurian? Divine Right of Kings, Shakespeare would weep levels of nonsense? yes I'm building book playlists what of it >.>

y'know, I don't know which was more hypnotizing: the eclipse, or to stand by the side of a little city park at 9pm saying 'have you looked at the moon?' to passers-by and see them stop, with looks of wonder, and join me. five minutes, ten, longer. no one brushed it off. there's magic in strangers.

I lost my place at Cambridge because I simply did not do my independent-study History A-level project, and dropped from an A to a C. Had to take my backup school. Everyone 'knew' something was wrong. But no one thought to tell me that. Anyway hi. I'm 36. I got my formal DX three weeks ago.

IT IS ANNOUNCED 💃🏻🥳⛸️

"Tough luck, girl," is the entire story of Moyna's life, lbr 😅 💀🤷‍♀️ (GO READ THIS i cannot emphasize enough how good this book is,,,, you thought you knew Freya was 🔥 already from The Last Binding but this one is even better & I don't need to say 'trust me' b'cause you can go read and find out!!)
