Useful info from SCVO for smaller charities > Critical security update to patch PHP2Shell vulnerability in websites running PHP
A quick canter round the charity internet and it all looks pretty much business as usual with only one or two sites down for maintenance. Not seeing many posts like this one confirming action. Might be a good thing to do to help build trust?
Today's website check list ✅ We're pleased to say that we've been able to implement updates to our site any critical issues have been resolved. Find out more about the critical security issue affecting PHP websites: www.ncsc.gov.uk/news/critica...

Releasing details about ethical AI in your industry does nothing to build trust and reassurance if you have: (a) left it too late (b) it doesn't address the experience or worries of your members (c) your comms is broad rather than specific. (d) you don't reply to the many comments.
And a withdrawal.

For 10 weeks, we asked five AI chatbots the same questions every day. None repeated the core misinformation they were tested on, but they reported proposals as law, quoted outdated figures and gave different answers on different days. Our first report: fullfact.org/ai-benchmark...

We understand the strength of feeling this AI Charter has provoked & that more explanation is needed. We will publish a blog tomorrow detailing why, in a vacuum of regulation, this charter demands more transparency & accountability from organisations on how they are using AI now and in the future.
Shocking news that the @dsc-charity.bsky.social is to close.
For my latest post I looked at how transparency might build trust in information giving. I visited the websites of 40 big charities and found that half have a page describing their information production Most were health charities. Many mentioned how they were using AI. Some listed specific tools.

Thread of useful reads about the under-16s social media ban or #TokOff as I am calling it now.
Earlier this week, the government confirmed that the social media ban for under-16s will come into force in March 2027: https://bbc.in/4dgyav0 For charities, this raises questions about how we reach and engage young people and adapt our digital strategies.
