Heading home on the train after a long but great and insightful day in Aarhus discussing the role of personality profiles in our work with helping founders create strong spinout teams. A couple of thoughts and reflections...

Could asking the future team members to invest in having a personality profile done as part of their recruitment process help signal seriousness and intend and weed out those who are only looking to strike gold for themselves? (Yes, motivations may be that basic even if they are stated otherwise)

Lots of things to reflect on and figure out how we take forward from here to help our founders build the absolutely best teams possible.

What is the right balance between assessing founders Values and Drivers? I suspect that most emphasis is on the Drivers of actual behaviour, but I often miss, we ask them where their behaviour in certain situations is coming from? What prompted them to behave this way? We should be more curious.

How might we use tools like these to help founders close the gap between what they think they need in a new team member and what they really need to build a high performing team. A team of very technical PostDocs may not need another one to help them in a commercial capacity, etc.

Really great session with my Open Entrepreneurship colleagues in Aarhus today about personality profiles and team dynamics. There is absolutely no doubt that there is a lot to gain from figuring out how to utilize recognized personality assessments for early stage research-based spinouts.

One thing that immediately comes to mind is using the profiles of the existing founders to help identify gaps that a potential co-founder should try to bring along. Another is to use the tools as part of securing a great onboarding and follow-up, so the combined team comes out flying.

Really looking forward to following up on this and see how this might fit into the development work on team formation, we're already deeply busy with at DTU Skylab.

Spending the day at The Kitchen, the innovation hub for Aarhus University. It's my first time here. Cool place they have built with a proper entrepreneurial vibe. Looking forward to a great productive day with some good discussions about person profiling and team dynamics.

One of the hardest things working with research-based spinout teams is to help them articulate and feel confident in why they are pursuing the journey, they have embarked on. I created an effective tool to help guide them through those reflections. I write. madsjvk.substack.com/p/the-first-...

madsjvk.substack.comThe First Slide Your Spinout Really NeedsWhat started as a team who had difficulties pitching turned into a powerful tool to solidify the core motivation to the entrepreneurship journey of you and your team

Early riser and heading for Aarhus today on the train. Meeting my fellow colleagues from the other Danish universities to discuss personality profiles and their role in team dynamics for spinouts. Looking very much forward to it.

Discussing application for the DTU PoC grant this morning with one of my teams. Applying and pitching for funding is always tricky. Because you never exactly know what will trigger the interest of the panel on the day. But being crystal clear about the opportunity, you're presenting, helps.

Spending a bit of my Sunday playing around with setting Claude up to be a critical interviewer - of me. The skill is getting pretty strong, and it's starting to feel like a 3rd degree interrogation. Which is great because it forces ME to think more about my own ideas.

To quote a former chairman of the board in a big company, I used to work for (after having told him on my first day on the job that I was sure, he would hear a lot from me going forward): "Now, I wonder: Is it a promise or a threat?" (He was VERY British...)

well that seals it; I'm voting for Prop 40

Yet another day back in school on DTU Board Education. Today very much with a focus on digitalization, cybersecurity and AI board competencies. Looking forward to it.

Every startup challenge is not an engineering problem. In fact there are plenty of challenges, which even the best engineering cannot solve and which requires an entirely different skillset. But you need to classify the problem correctly first. I write. madsjvk.substack.com/p/a-tough-cu...

madsjvk.substack.comA Tough Customer Psyche is Not An Engineering ProblemThere are crucial barriers to startup success that cannot be solved by even the best application of technical skills. It requires something completely different.

AI is already speaking to AI, when it comes to recruitment, job applications and CV screening. Leading nowhere except creating waste. Extending that practice to agents for other purposes does not seem like it is going to be an amplifier of efficiency. continuations.com/the-right-to...

continuations.comThe Right to be Represented by an AgentWell over a decade ago I gave my first talk on the idea that we need a right to be represented by what I called a bot. At the time a lot of people simply shrugged off this idea. It seemed too outlandi...

Very interesting. And super scary; apparently we're sooo easy to manipulate, you can almost forgive the bots and their masters for trying to take advantage and amplify discontent. Almost.

We’ve been talking about this for years. None of these far-right movements are organic.

Starting the final day of the week coordinating the pitch sessions for the upcoming Digital Tech Summit taking place in Copenhagen, Denmark on November 4-5. Great to see the diversity of startups looking to get a chance to pitch in front of the audience of the numerous sessions.

Enjoying a day without meeting on meeting. For once. Feels good to just lean back a little and also have a bit of time for reflection and planning ahead.

When school takes out 20% of your time in an already busy calendar, the need to plan carefully, prioritize and focus increases almost exponentially.

Great discussion with one of my teams this morning about the difference between building a great, impactful product and getting buy-in from the people who have the budgets. The second part, you cannot fix through great engineering. You only get through by understanding current behavior and drivers.

Another day in school. This time centered around what research tells us about founder equity split and the future success of their startups. Super interesting stuff.

Working on my board CV. It is hard to condensate 30 years of experience into a single, attractive value proposition for why someone should consider you for your board.

Overall my value proposition is to be the 'resilience architect' of the emerging business; Help the founders build a strong resilience muscle to last the journey. Help founders create the strongest possible team. And help the business navigate challenges through a well-functioning, strong team.

I think it could be applicable in a wide variety of contexts and industries, and I think it is sorely overlooked today. Maybe it's because I am the only one who sees this as an important need and capability. Or maybe I am actually on to something. Time will tell.

I am not looking to create a board career per see - at least not for the foreseeable future, so I think I can allow to be picky on what I am looking for. If someone sees that as a fit, great. If not, I still wish you the very best of success.

The more I think about it, it seems like AI agents rather than the models behind them themselves will be the source of our demise. Unleashing agents to act 'independently' of training gives me a tiny bit of the 'Terminator' vibes. www.technologyreview.com/2026/09/08/1...

Monday again and a super busy week ahead covering everything from policy development for startup teams, mentor meetings and progress assessment in our startup program. How about you?

Spending the day progressing our TEAM Model project by designing a new mandatory workshop on 'Team Charter', ie how do we make sure we behave properly towards each other.

I hold a strong belief that as AI tools take over more and more of the business prep side of startup projects, the 'team failure' cause of death will grow in prominence when doing the post mortem's. Thus it seems like a very worthwhile thing to try and solve for.

Spent part of the morning discussion our various ambitions as potential board members in startups and scaleups with the other participants. Figuring out how to tone your value proposition is actually quite hard. But I do think it starts with making some hard choices as to what you believe in.

Personally, I would rather one day come into play for one board position which sees the value in what I believe, I can bring around creating resilience in both team and business, than trying to conform to playing a part, I don't feel as much, just to build a portfolio.

Back in school today for module 3 of the DTU Board Education talking about conflicts in teams and how it relates to board work. Super interesting stuff and right up my alley.
