I fancy a cup of tea right now.

“As far as her mom was concerned, tea fixed everything. Have a cold? Have some tea. Broken bones? There's a tea for that too. Somewhere in her mother's pantry, Laurel suspected, was a box of tea that said, 'In case of Armageddon, steep three to five minutes'.” ~ Aprilynne Pike, Illusions see alt tx

IF the strike aircraft were driven out of RAF Fairford by an enemy threat, then that enemy has enjoyed more success than the Luftwaffe during the whole of the Battle of Britain.

BBC “Tennessee death row inmate Christa Pike has been taken to hospital after an attempt to execute her by two lethal injections failed, her lawyer says.” How deeply sick is that country?

OTD in 1939, families gathered around the wireless in kitchens, sitting rooms, shop parlours, anywhere they could hear. They already suspected what was coming; but finally knowing was a different feeling. Then Neville Chamberlain's voice, measured and grave came through the set.

As we slowly ( or quickly) become the 51st state of the USA culturally I note the media hype of the U.S. aircraft carrier doing 250 days at sea in the fresh air. Much much less always on the RN subs which are now doing, I think routinely, 200 days underwater.
