there’s no way to stop my singing in this world but to cut my throat. And when that’s done, ten to one I sing ye the doxology for a wind-up

He's basically a comedian. He's a comedian who hasn't had good new material in years, but many still enjoy his show, for some reason. (nostalgia for the old material) Oh, and a comedian who has the power to drop nuclear weapons.

In my latest video, I count down the five most consequential midterm elections in American history (in my opinion).

Happy Sunday! I arrived home at 4 AM and understandably decided to sleep through sunrise, so here is another shot from Friday morning when the water was doing a nice shoreline dance. Tap for full size, particularly because it's a vertical. I hope you have a great day!

Happy Saturday! It's the weekend! I woke up late today – but just in time to see the sunrise pre-show underway, so I grabbed this from the house. Tap for full size. I hope you have a great day!

Perhaps as a Pacific Islander, I can see this story more clearly than other peoples do. But I believe Americans can, if they choose, to also see this story, if they can get beyond the pre-packaged myths that they so often and easily consume. 12\

But this does not mean the story will end, for America, or for the world. All those who, in the past, have proclaimed “the End of History,” have been reminded - and often painfully - that the Past never ends. It begins anew. 10\

But what we are all seeing in America today is the culmination of a History that began long before 9/11, or World War II, or the Civil War. It is a story that extends to the earliest colonial settlements in North America, a story involving profound alienation, and dispossession. 8\

Much of this is rooted in America’s own - and very unique - history. But much of this is also rooted in the individual decisions of Presidents (of both Parties), and in the collective decision-making of the American electorate. 4\

But despite this struggle, America ultimately failed to prevent other countries from acquiring nuclear weapons. And today, more nations than ever before are planning to develop nuclear weapons. Because they no longer trust America to protect them. 2\

Happy Friday! We made it through the week! We had quiet skies but some active shoreline rumbling that gave our sunrise presentation a nice bit of texture and energy. Tap for full size. I hope you have a great day!

“Trump’s CIA wants 'PhDs who could win a bar fight.' Pangs of embarrassment hit me—less for the fool I had been than a vicarious embarrassment. I know how many young men without real prospects in life are ready to be the fools of the next generation.” www.un-diplomatic.com/p/a-phd-who-...

un-diplomatic.comA PhD Who Can Win a Bar FightWhen I was still a teen, I’d read somewhere that the CIA’s ideal recruit was a “PhD who could win a bar fight.” I think Bill Donovan had said it.

This is not the meaning of service and, as a career public servant, it's incredibly sad to see.   At the State Department, my job wasn't about politics or serving one political party or President – it was about serving the American people. This move is about serving Trump.
