I get a lot of GOP fundraising emails in my spam folder. I delete most, but sometimes I open them up. They're fascinating. Is this the kind of thing that really works? How much of your soul do you forfeit when you take the job to write this kind of copy?

I read that piece in the NYT about Marissa Mayer's startup aiming to replace parenting w/ AI assistants. Yikes. There's plenty to pick at, but the big picture thing that bugs me about all this is that I don't think efficiency should be the measure of our lives. It's a bad metric, just like money.

The video has like 700 views. In internet terms that means basically no one has seen/heard this. But it matters so much to me. How can I hold all that in my head and heart, and then make room for more?!

I am tired of hearing that things are cooked. Unless it's a turkey or a pie, please refrain from speculating on the cooked nature of concepts or systems until the new year. Thank you.

here's a question about that documentary and Nathan Fielder's broader work: Is it a profound and artistic statement about life and truth, or do I feel that it has a lot to say because I'm broken in a particular way?

Oh yeah, in case the internet breaks or the world ends tomorrow because of some PHP exploit, it's been fun hanging out with everybody on here.

Ok, so we saw the doc. yesterday and today started The Rehearsal. I sort of knew what I was in for; my wife went in 100% blind. It totally changed the framing of the documentary, adding at least a couple more levels. Just a mind blowing project. I'm reminded of Synecdoche New York, but real life.

Hey everybody, I just want you to know that I feel very strongly that if you want to make a geometallurgy model that your model should tell me something **important** about the relationship between geology and metallurgy. If the process plant doesn't care about the modeled differences, why should I?

I saw this youtube ad that said sleeping on your side is "ruining your shoulder and you don't even know it". Friends, I know what time and sleeping on my side are doing to my shoulder; I feel it every morning.

This is wild. Scrolled down to the bottom of a spam email (They've blocked my account! All my photos will be deleted!) and found this. A pair of scenes near Joshua Tree from parallel universes, I guess. So weird.

Folding iPhone? Not interested. Apple home dingus? Meh. I am basically never excited by new gadgets anymore. HOWEVER, I did recently get a travel cpap and it has rekindle my love of cool tech. This is probably a function of my age and overpowering dad-vibes. Happy birthday to me, I guess.

One more thing about Kobold Metals. I realized that I posted my thoughts about that company elsewhere. Anyway, I wanted to share this bit of the thoughts I had back then. I got kinda worked up.

I've spent too much time today taking another look at Kobold Mining, a mineral exploration company that markets itself like a tech company. This latest dive was kicked off by this article, shared earlier by @geolizzy.bsky.social (good follow for geo stuff). www.berkeleyside.org/2026/10/05/k...

I'm not saying they don't have a deposit; they have drill data and are sinking a shaft. But the available numbers don't make sense to me. Public companies are subject to various disclosure rules so investors can make informed decisions. The public information doesn't always give the full picture,

but it does give *enough* of the picture that you can get a good idea about the quality of the deposit and the work that went into it. As a private company, Kobold doesn't have to disclose, so I'm left wondering what I'm missing. I'd LOVE to read a 43-101 technical report about this project!

OK, so we're looking at a deep deposit, that apparently has a resource advanced enough to start sinking a shaft. They claim to have drilled 150 km on the deposit; probably reasonable for that deposit type. (But did Kobold drill those or was that drilled by previous companies? unclear to me.)

They're telling people they'll produce 300 kt of copper per year. That's a lot. At ~3% Cu (reasonable for nearby mines) that's 27 kt per day - 10 Mt per year. That's a BIG underground operation. Doesn't seem to match the mineralization style, or that 2.3B capex.

That initial news story says the mine will be at 1,700 m deep, which is deep, but not unheard of; there are mines much deeper than that. Still, it's tough to mine that deep. Also tough to build a deep mine for $2.3 billion, which they've apparently estimated. discoveryalert.com/kobold-mingo...

I already shared some thought in the replies of @geolizzy.bsky.social's post of this story, but I wanted to add a couple more bits that I found while trying to figure out whether this is marketing magic or a real company that should be worth its $3.6B valuation.

As part of (one of?) the transaction that brought them into the deposit, they agreed to drill two holes, at least 2000 m. Their first hole was lost at 2,711 m, before reaching the target horizon. You guys, that is a really, really deep hole. Like, SUPER deep. www.linkedin.com/pulse/projec...

The theme at therapy today was "it's ok to feel things". Seems obvious, but it was nice to have a reminder. I hope you are all feeling things today (it's ok) and are doing well, considering.

See, the thing is, I don't really care if Twitter is good again. I'm not going back. Part of it is because of the terrible person that runs the place, but mostly I just don't need that anymore. I need less of my life to be online. A bigger, better social platform isn't going to help with that.

A lot of people, most maybe, think of Vegas when you mention Nevada. I think of this kind of landscape. I prefer it over the lights and excess of the Strip.
